Has anyone gotten this when watching youtube videos? It's driving me nuts. I have a triple screen setup. Catalyst version is 14.4
 
Is your video card overclocked?

This .sys error is quite generic believe it or not. It just means your video driver crashed.

IF you have it overclocked, turn it back to stock speeds.
Since Youtube uses Flash, do an uninstall of Flash Player and then reinstall it here: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Check your temperatures?
Tested your RAM?
CPU overclock?
 
It's not overclocked.

It would seem to me the video driver doesn't know how to handle an exception whatever the Flash or HTML5 video was doing.
 
Uninstall the amd driver, CCC and any other AMD junk. Then update to the latest AMD driver and dont install CCC or anything else just install the display driver. Update to the latest flash then disable flash hardware acceleration.

Reboot and then try watching a youtube video and see if its fixed.
 
Disable hardware acceleration for both Flash and your browser, if that doesn't fix it try a different browser. All browsers can have this issue but it often seems to be related to a specific combo of Flash version, browser version, and hardware. If that doesn't work I would try another driver version(probably 14.6 or 13.12) or upgrade to a newer version of Flash if available or revert to an older version if there isn't a newer one.
 
Yes I had / have this problem in firefox with flash... basically try to update everything or switch browsers for a bit
 
STOP 0xA0000001 in atikmdag.sys is likely caused by hardware acceleration in Firefox/Chrome.
 
I had this same problem yesterday with a video on vimeo. Crashed in Firefox twice to blue screen. Youtube isn't affected.
 
I was experiencing the issue a lot during gaming.

Go back down to 13.12 for the time being. I have tried rolling back to other drivers but the general consensus is 13.12 is the last fully stable driver. It has not only solved my issue, but lots of other people on numerous other forums. Haven't had a bsod since whereas I use to get one every 2 days or so. Speculation is that when the drivers started including Mantle, this started occuring...

EDIT: Make sure to use a driver cleaner of some sort. I got lazy and tried uninstalling and then re-installing lesser drivers, kept having issues (I typically always use some driver cleaner, but it was late and I was tired when trying to fix this issue). I used 'Display Driver Uninstaller' available through Guru3d as it was fast and lightweight. You can always use Driver Fusion too.

I had this same issue and I rolled to so many different drivers but 3.12 was the least amount of BSODs then somebody recommend going to Video settings under CCC and turn off Enforce Smooth Video Playback and this solved my issue period. No more BSOD on youtube videos.
 
I really hate this bug. Always had this with my 7970's =/ Is it a problem within flash or the way the driver interacts with flash?
 
I've reverted back to 13.12 (after a clean install using Display Driver Uninstaller), disabled hardware acceleration, already have Flash and browsers up to date, and disabled Enforce Smooth Video Playback. It seems to be working. No BSODs yet. Honestly I think it may be the hardware acceleration that might be causing it.
 
I disabled hardware acceleration and I still BSOD depending on what I was doing, the Enforce Smooth Video playback is what did the trick for me. I can now play games and play flash in my web browser :)

So you are on the newest driver and just the 'enforce smooth video' fixed your issue? I reverted to 13.12 an kept that setting on without an issue since also.
 
I am on 13.12, I had an unrelated issue of a BSOD crash on the new drivers.

It would BSOD randomly at idle or under load and would point to the driver every time.
 
290x / 14.6 RC here... and I would get this too, but then I reduced my overclock and it seems to have helped. it truly is the fap attack bsod.

I was getting it under stock clocks and voltage. Someone on another forum recommended increasing the voltage, did that, still received BSOD.

Went back down to 13.12, no problems in weeks!

I get this whenever I am playing an online game that uses Java. I have tried updating the drivers to no avail. I did reinstall 14.7 last night just for the heck of it. I'm doubtful it will have helped any. I have also tried reinstalling Java. Next Ill try just reinstalling Windows.

That is not going to help.
As per your signature, you're using "eVGA X58 SLI3 | XFX R9 290". X58 is the problem and Windows re-install would not solve it. Trust me, I tried everything. Only solved by a switch to a different m/b (Z97 + 4790k).
 
What does a X58 board (this was the latest model before they were discontinued by the way: has USB 3.0 and SATA 3, also has late lest bios) have to do with a software issue though?

Other people that do not have X58 have this issue as well.

I don't know what's the problem, probably some kind of incompatibility of PCIe2.0 and PCIe3.0 video card and powertune on 290 series..

I know that on my setup (same mb, cpu, os, drivers, everything else) ATI 6950 works fine, R9 290 crashes.

Replaced x58 board and i7-920 with X97 board and i7-4790k, same PSU, same OS HDD, drivers, etc - 290 work fine.

EDIT: one potential fix is to flash "asus pt1 bios", which seems to fix the problem.
