i have a x1950xtx 512mb ddr4
when i am playing a game my temps reach up in the 70's and my system shuts down and restarts,,,
thought it was my case for a long time,,, bought a new cooler master 810
i have a 80mm intake on the side case blowing on card, and a 120mm on front blowing on card also,,, then have 2 120mm in rear as an exhaust,
i know it is the card getting hot and shutting me down, i am using stock cooling on the card.
or at least i think it is the card. Right now at idle it is at 52 degrees
any suggestions?????

Hmmmmm could possibly be the card, but I think it's normal for that card to go into the 70's.

no computer component should exceed 60c, even close to 60c is not that safe. Do you have good air circulation in your computer if not thats the probleme. if yes well maybe think about changing your GPU heatsink for a better one, like the artict ones, not sure if theres one out for you card yet.

GPUs were designed for high temps, they can operate well into the high 70c's.

However, it could be MUCH higher than that because most likely the temp sensor your using is off so I'd start to find better cooling solutions for your card.

My x1950xtx is overclocked to 695/1098 idles at around 62*C Load is 85*C-86*C and on a hot day it will idle in the low 70's. So I doubt that is the problem as I've never had something like that happen to me.

With the above said, would one point a finger at his power supply? What PSU are you running?

What bullshit; videocards get into 90c in some cases and still be fine.

As long as the GPU doesn't exceed 95 degrees its fine. They're designed to withstand up to 100 degrees. Most cards reach around 65-75 degrees under load. The fact that its restarting is still a problem though.

Umm yeah.....My card runs at ~70 when i game..been that way for a year now.....

BTW: Its an X850XT-PE....VJ style :)

It aint BS my friend. If you want your video card to have a long life of pure performance keep it under 60c. If you want it to have a short life well go a head and keep it in the 60c+. I can assure you all my video cards that have been in the 60c+ well they died after 2 years some times less some times more.

it is BS

Does these cards on stock settings with stock HSF running normal temp not freezing cold room temp with 100% fan running stay under 60c? I freaking doubt it.

Especially on AIR COOLING. Take the X1900XT for example.... these things heat up like a mofo.

BTW why dont you post your specs and let's see what you use to keep your cards under 60c huh?

It's impossible to keep an X1900 level card under 60c under load, unless you watercool or spend $50 on Thermalright HR-03 and 120mm fan to blow at it. Even with the stock cooler at a deafening 100%, the card doesn't go under 60c. I guess you expect thousands of video cards in the world that stay at a healthy 75c or so to fail after 2 years? Every other computer component, perhaps; but not videocards...

My card is a Volt Modded Viper John X850XT=PE...it has a freakin huge cooler on it with a fan on the GPU and a fan blowing over the memory...it hits ~70 when I push it hard.....Its been doing fine for well over a year.....so yeah..it is BS.

ATi X850XT-PE in a Shuttle SN25P PC hits 98*c under full load easily. Thus . V-Sync is my friend and keeps my vid- card happier. BTW no gfx issues yet

its only been a year so you think video card going bad happends the next morning? it takes time and you dont see it happen. some of my cards lasted 3 years while some 2 years others not even a year. The excess heat isnt a positive stress on the GPU and other components on your card. Theres is so much stuff can wistand stress, but some times to much is to much and it breaks stuff.

Your point?

What video cards do you have may I ask?

You seem to be new here. And you also seem to be another of those 'OMG TEMPS!' people. If its so bad for cards to be over 60c, why do almost all of them, with a few exceptions, reach 75c+ on load? And why do many many many of those cards last 3+ years? These cards are DESIGNED to run at higher temps, they have tolerance, unlike many other parts of the system. Should I also mention that an nVidia 6800GS PCI-E card has a default core slowdown of 120c? Hmm, seems its not going to shorten the life for very long at 80c. Lets not actually mention how few people keep cards more than 2 years anyway, and if you do keep a card that long, you probably dont stress it too much, since you're happy with older tech.

You cant cant admit your wrong can you?

EVERYBODY in this thread called you on your incorrect statement, but you wont give up.....
Let it go dude, your making a fool of yourself.

holy cow,,, i was just curious if it may be my card shutting down my system,,, lol
it does seem like it is my card but im not sure why though

i confirmed this by,,, i can run a stress prime for 20hrs straight,, everything looks good system runs good
pc stays booted up for days,,, i do normal pc stuff, web,files,etc..
then when i try to play a game,, as in Microsoft Flight Simulator X, Americas Army,,,
the system shuts down about 30mins or so of playing,,
i tried 2 cards,, both same brand and model, and still same results
I have a 600 Watt Power supply
it is in my sig of what brand, because i cant remember

If you want to get rid of your stock heatsink and fan, I'll buy them.

I'm following the Mac Pro forums and it seems that the x1900XT that Apple ships die quite a bit (seen a dozen reports so far at least). All of those dead cards are less than three months old. Mine has been all right so far but it's only a month old (knock on wood). Note that Apple ships underclocked (600/650) x1900XT with a stock heat sink and fan. That much heat on the card can't be good.
