Hiyall, I just bought the hdtv wonder from the ati website for $134 and received it today. I was going to install it into a computer that has currently uses the vpu on the motherboard for videoprocessing (64mb shared memory) and thus has an agp slot open for upgrade. Is the motherboard vpu and 64mb shared memory enough to support the hdtv wonder do its thang? Or am I going to have to actually pony up the $$$$ to buy a 9500 class or higher videocard?

I had my eyes on getting a 6600gt for a long time, but I keep reading in the forums that the HDTV wonder does not work well, if at all, with nvidia video cards. If that is the case, I am thinking of just getting a cheap Gigabyte 9550 128mb 64 bit for $47 cause there is no ATI agp card that can compete with nvidia 6600gt in the sub $200 category anyway.

What do you think?

what is your CPU speed? CPU is going to matter more than what video card you have. although it does matter to some extent.

Not sure where you got the 6600GT info. My HDTV Wonder was almost as easy as plug and play with my 6600GT. It ran fine under Windows XP, although the ATI DVR software is flakey at best. So I picked up a MCE 2k5 and once again it worked flawlessly (remember to run the HD update on the microsoft page for MCE to recognize the tuner). On that note I have friends running an HDTV Wonder on a 5200 and a ti4400, seems to be working fine on nvidia cards from my end.

Check out the avsforum, there is a post on the HDTV Wonder pushing nearly 2k posts that you can read which will detail problems and successes people have/are having from release up until now.

It'll work with an NV card, it was the much older TV Wonder cards that didn't initially work with NV cards but that was resolved along time ago. And yeah the ATI software for the HD Wonder is pretty flaky.

I had mine with a 6800NU and it did not integrate near as well with ATI cards. Sold the 6800 and got a X800. I think you need a 9600 or better to run with the HDTV wonder?

you dont NEED above a 9600 ati, but it is recommended. For instance, i got it working with my 9200 i had laying around, worked fine....but it works much faster/better with my x800 :)
