ATI GPU client + Remote Desktop

Hey guys, been folding away for a few months now off and on with my two ATI cards.

One problem I have noticed is that when I use Remote Desktop to login to my work computer (the one folding), it crashes the F@H client and the F@H client reports a serious error whenever I log back on the work computer (from the actual computer).

Is this normal? It kinda lowers my PPD since I have to restart the thing when I see the error.

Would something like this guy's solution work:

Something about RDP seems to cause the GPU clients to crash. I would just suggest that you use VNC or LogMeIn instead, since those don't seem to have the same problem.

Remote desktop loads another video driver specifically for remote desktop. This allows remote desktop to work better. The GPU will complete the current work unit it's working on but then when it grabs a new one the remote desktop driver will be loaded inside of the correct ATI one.


There's no work around. You can't fold and use remote desktop. I use Ultra VNC, it's nearly the same thing. Probably uses a little more bandwidth.

I don't think the post would work because you would need to physically login before it would reload the correct video driver.
 
I've had the same issues before, and found logmein.com to be my favorite solution...It's free and doesn't mess up the folding clients either.
 
I think we have used LogMeIn in the past but I have always personally used Remote Desktop since it's built in to Windows and does what I need it to do. I may take the time to look at some other solutions and see if they do what I would like them to do, and then switch to something else.
 
yeah logmein doesnt cause this issue.. since it doesnt have to load its own graphic drivers within windows..
 
Another with a suggestion for logmein. I use it all the time. I did try RDP once and after a crash (and everyone telling me not to), I've not used it since :D
 
Same here. Logmein works good enough for me, even for tweaking GPU clock settings on a remote folding client. More PpD ! :D

Nope, same issue occurs no matter what card, brand, or drivers you're using. The above mentioned software is really the only work-around when folding on GPUs.

like osrk & T4rd stated above, remote desktop login defaults to a video driver that is not friendly with the f@h GPU client.

It took me a few logins via remote desktop to realize this on my remote GPU rigs. Screws it up.

Logmein is one solution, work for me. Sticking with it.
