ATI drivers VS nVidia

OK so I had an nvidia for the longest time, and I just upgraded to the ATI 850XT Platinum from Sapphire.

To say the least this card rocks, but I have some questions, and maybe you guys can help me out;

I tried to get tech support from ATI but they wouldn't let me because they said its not a "ATI Certified" card. After talking to a rep from ATI I found out that its not certified. BUT on the front of the box there is a big ATI logo that says "ATI Certified" on it. Go figure...

So what I"m trying to do is simple, put two diffrent desktops (desktop images) on two monitors. On the nvidia card I could do that since the 4600, and now I can't even find out thru ATI because I can't register my card thru tech support. I have it on "extend my desktop onto the second monitor" set up.

I called up Sapphire, to find out that they had one tech support guy working there at the time (mid day PST) and that they would give me a call back... yup no call back yet and its been three days.

So hopefully one of you guys knows how to do this with an ATI card, I couldn't see why I coouldn't do that if nVidia was able to do that three years ago. :confused:
 
My experience is that nVidia's multimonitor support is far superior to that of ATi, I still prefer ATi though... Just feels right to me...
 
Can we say neither? Both are extremely stable, IMO.

I love the constant official updates from ATi, truly rocks. But I feel kinda like a spy (1337~!) when all I do is download beta's that sometimes dont work correctly for my Nvidia cards.

I hate Nvidia multi monitor support. I just cant stand it. But then again, once I got it set up I never messed with it again and it did work, after much pain.

Overall I enjoy the use of ATi cards much more, but Nvidia does certain things for me (spy feeling <3). But in the end I could care less as long as one works in the games I play and do it correctly and offers good performance.
 
I don't like nVidia's multimonitor configuration, it's just wierd...
I'd like to have one monitor at 1792x1344 and the other at 1280x1024 but it won't let me...
Anyways, I should probably stop thread crapping now.

Can't answer your question, but as for your last sentence most agree Nvidia has better multimonitor support than ATI so that might be part of the reason.

I just didn't understand how the box would say ATI certified, and then find out that its not... has anyone else bought this card yet?
 
ive used both atis and nvidias solutions for multi monitor, and stock drivers the nvidia ones work better and are supported better by games. I dont use ultramon but have heard nothing but good things about it.

It's really just that ATI will only provide tech support on ATI-brand cards. Sapphire is a fine brand, it just isn't ATI brand.
