ATI driver issue (5.10's)

Greetings!

I just built a new comp and am running a new video card (Sapphire Radeon x800xl). It came with cat 5.7's and the catalyst software suite or something. Either way, it's new (to me at least).

I had a Radeon 9800 pro on the old comp and was on 5.9's. But I always only downloaded the video driver w/ control panel. But with the new card, the entire layout of the advanced settings in my display properties is different, so my first question is:

Is that new layout (with the speeding car as you change settings) part of the catalyst suite?

My second question is, and this is where it gets frustrating... The driver that came with the card (5.7s) work fine in all games. But when I downloaded the 5.10s (with catalyst software suite) 1) I couldn't access my advanced display properties in windows and 2) games didn't work or ran poorly. I did the uninstall through the Add/remove window and took out everything that was ATI (this on a fresh install of XP pro), and even did the uninstall utility as well when I took off the 5.7s to make way for the 5.10s. So unless I happened to get a bunk download (straight from ATI site) or the drivers just aren't compatible with my card, I'm at a loss. So in case I lost ya with my rambling:

Old computer; radeon 9800 pro ran fine from stock drivers to 5.9's with control panel

New computer, radeon x800xl ran fine w/ stock driver suite 5.7s, but 5.10's do not work. (Cannot access the advanced options in display properties in windows)

If anyone has any pointers for me, that would be great. I would have tried the 5.9s but I'm not sure if it's the driver themselves causing the problems, or the type of driver (control panel vs. suite).

doh! almost forgot... the old computer is running win2k pro. new comp was fresh XP pro.

5.7 is a great driver pack for radeon cards :D
I suggest getting Driver Cleaner Professional Edition to get rid of everything ati before installing a new/old driver pack, its very easy to use if you follow the instructions correctly (remove driver via add/remove programs / boot computer to safe mode / run driver cleaner / reboot and reinstall drivers).

Good luck

I ment the 5.7s

So if I'm running the 5.4 drivers and would like to donwload the 5.10 or 5.11s when released, I should run that program?
