ATi and Nvidia Physics.

Hi. I heard that ATi and Nvidia had partnered up with havok to enable a PPU like system whereby if you have two GPU’s, one of which could be used for physics without a drop to graphical detail.

I was wondering if when this is released if it was only going to available to SLi and Crossfire users. My mobo support 2 PCI-E cards but isn't Crossfire or SLi supported. Will I be able to use this feature?


I have recently purchased the Gigabyte motherboard for my Conroe processor. My knowledge on multiple GPU and the Havok system is limited but I currently own the 1900xtx and was thinking maybe early next year I could buy another GPU and use the x1900xtx as the PPU.

My current mother board is the Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6, details of which can be found HERE
 
A. you can use your single video card for physics and 3d games.
B. The card will act as a seperate entity and not be linked to any other cards either through crossfire or SLI.

I recently won an alienware and I got a single EVGA 7900GT card. I am glad to know that I will be able to do physics procesing with Havok when nvidia updates their drivers. I am looking foward to Crysis more than any game right now. Which should have physics effects. Most EA games aredeveloped for nvidia hardware. ATI hardware is also excellent and will support Havok too.
 
Crysis sounds like a game wich put hardware spect to the edge. it could have some steep requier ments. It could utilise a high-end card to it full. So a High-end card has some reserve power to do Physix but it could mean put the reso and effects lower.
Also the impact on performance is unkown. nV claims the GPU have some idle time.

So I have a 7800GS+ on AGP this would have also a bit reserve for Physics then.
But for those High profile games like Crysis you need a strong rendering setup.

Beside Crysis don't support HavokFX or PhysX. It do Physics mostly With CPU and a litle bit of native inhouse GPU Physx.

So For Crysis I would recommend a strong rendering setup. a High-end card or CF sLI for rendering. And a Fast DC Conroe. The gameing CPU for the near future. Crysis is CPUPhysics. So needs a fast CPU.

To use a Physics GPU you need a Havok FX Game. Crysis is not one of those. It would be idle. altho Crysis use a litle bit PGPU it could be only use if in CF/SLI. If using a extra card and not a extra stand alone GPU.
 
well i currently own the e6700 so that shouldent be a problem (my 1900xtx acts as a bottleneck ;) . Prob invest january time in a new card, if my mobob supports it I'll use two gpus to get the most performance out of t.
