So when is the 7800 series dropping i know its march but what date. also wondering whats going to be the price range? its been 3 years sence my last upgrade and im thinking now is the time for me,

You will roughly get 6950-6970 performance for 6950-6970 price. That's my guess. 199 to 399, somewhere in between.

(I have been tracking this info for awhile now, and below is the bits and pieces I have seen, written down-prcing, if we consider the 6870 was released at $239MSRP and the 5870 at $379 I think in the $259-$329 range is likely, IF Nvidia has nothing to show it might be $339 if they do, and the rumors of performance are true it might launch at $249?)
Expected pricing
7890 $359
7870 $269?/$299 1/2gb (might be $199???)
7850 $219/$249 1/2gb (might be $169 for the 2gb model??)

Expected performance
7850 rough GTX560 448 core performance(better then 6950)
7870 near parity to 6970
7890 slightly faster then 6970, equivalent to GTX580 1.5gb

(the below specs in regard to memory bandwidth might be a little lower then they should be, i.e 7870 should be around 186 gb/s mem bandwitdth butting the 7890 215 gb/s or so)

AMD Radeon HD 7850 1GB
•$139 (Rumored)
•20 Compute Units
•1280 cores (Stream Processors)
•80 Texture Units; 72.0 GTexel/s
•24 Color ROP Units; 21.6 GPixel/s
•1 GB GDDR5 Memory; 156.25 GB/s
•900 MHz GPU Core
•1250 MHz QDR GDDR5 clock (5.0 GHz "effective")

AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB
•$169 (Rumored)
•20 Compute Units
•1280 cores (Stream Processors)
•80 Texture Units; 72.0 GTexel/s
•24 Color ROP Units; 21.6 GPixel/s
•2 GB GDDR5 Memory; 156.25 GB/s
•900 MHz GPU Core
•1250 MHz QDR GDDR5 clock (5.0 GHz "effective")

AMD Radeon HD 7870 2GB
•$199 (Verified)
•22 Compute Units
•1408 cores (Stream Processors)
•88 Texture Units; 83.6 GTexel/s
•24 Color ROP Units; 22.8 GPixel/s
•2GB GDDR5 Memory; 171.88GB/s
•950MHz GPU Core
•1375 MHz QDR GDDR5 clock (5.5GHz "effective")

This does not take into account overclocking(which they will do exceptionally well, especially the 7890 as it has a chewed back core opening it for raw speed.) The power draw and temps, apprently 7870 will be around 120w which puts the 7850 around 95w and the 7890 around 140w, this also more or less says they will be very cool running as the core is quite a bit smaller then the 7900 series which are very cool running

this month.. not sure exactly when this month but they are coming. the delay was mostly to stock pile gpu's given that this will be the major selling range for AMD and its AIB's.

i'm going to say performance will be slightly better then the 6950/6970 similar to what the 6800 series was to the 5800 series but with much lower power usage.

delay was as said, to reduce the current stock of "selling cards" and possibly to gauge the best price(to what Nvidia is bringing) as well as to get their drivers in order. Performance for 7870 should be around 6950 2gb but just a hair more, with power draw being around the 120w mark. Last I heard Cebit march9 if I recall?

Power reduction is nice, but the 78XX is out of the question with identical performance at an identical price. However, if this power reduction leads to the next generation of consoles having a modern powerful GPU, then it will be very, very worth it.

I think the prices listed above are way too low. AMD has the $250-$400 range to fill as of right now. I'm expecting the 7870 to launch at $350.

Edit: I didn't know there was a 7890. In that case, yeah I expect around $300-$320 for the 7870. But that is still too high considering the 6970s were in that range for a good while, and unlockable 6950s were going below $250.

Those prices can't possibly be correct when you have the 7770 and the 7750 overlapping with them.

its information I have seen, thats all.

Performance will be slightly better then previous gen replacements, so higher prices are a given, but again, IF Nvidia releases cards that are above thier performance, there is swing to go below "expected" pricing.

$359/$299/$249 can be expected, as for the 7700 series they should be $145/$119, so if they hit those prices, the others will drop to accomadate $299/$$219/$169 or something like that.

power reduction, slightly increased performance ~ the same price. You are also not taking into account overclocking and still hitting roughly the same power envelope, something all GCN cards can do quite well, so example, 7870 2gb is slightly more $ then 6950 2gb, but chews less power and stays cooler, overclock it it will more then likely exceeed 6970 performance.

7870 from what I have seen
22 compute, 1408 shader, 88TMU, 24rops(not linked to memory anymore)
6950
22 compute, 1408 shader, 88TMU, 32 rops

So, it, by spec alone will be parity to 6950, however GCN is able to accomplish same to better results with slightly less shaders and such(very tweaked) so 7870 should end up closer to 6970 performance, 7850 should end up closer to 6950 performance. We have to look at prices currently on the shelf, which unfortunately does not shine a good light on the 7700 or 7900 series, but if looking at MSRP of thier competing products, its a different story, overall pretty decent.

I think it just boils down to, what will they cost, and will Nvidia release something alot faster, and if they do, what will they charge, if thier prices are similar, maybe a 4k/GTX200 repeat.

$399 7950 1.5gb
$359 7890 1.5gb
$299 7870 2gb
$250 7850 2gb
$219 7850 1gb

This is what rumors say, seeing as the rumors were correct with 7950 3gb and 7970 pricing, probably will be true. Surprised some people even think $199 for 7870, yeah right, not on launch.

Those prices would leave precious little room between it and the 7950 3GB for them to market the 7890 and 7950 1.5GB, though.

Is there even a 7890? The 7870 should be fairly close to the 7950, so I doubt it would make sense to cram another SKU in there cannibalizes AMDs own portfolio.

I'm just gonna drop this here:

[H] should have their review samples on hand soon if not already. Busy weekend ahead :D

awesome, i'm sick of waiting. too many crazy deals in recent weeks tempting me to part with my cash before 7870 comes out. i almost bought a gtx 480 for $220 last night.

I'm surprised we don't know when the NDA expires.... Being the the 7700s and 7900s were "hard launched" with cards available that day, I'm hoping to have a 7800 next week.

We have also seen a couple of "pre-orders" show up on Google Shopping the day or two before release, but there is no 7800s as of Friday.... making me think that Monday might not be the release day.

March 6th, the day Cebit starts.

well, even though prices will be close, you also got to take the overclocking side in, if there specs are that much different between say a 7870, 7890, and a 7950 shaders, rops etc overclocking them makes a pretty decent performance jump STILL leaving room for them, obviously boils down to cost. I think its cool that they are proliferating the $ brackets, something for everyone. 7890 BTW is not a "launch card" from what I have heard, its more or less a reserve card if Nvidia releases something that is between 7870 and 7950 performance, this will let a cropped 7950(aka 7890) more able to compete, and also allow AMD to do some harvesting(which does make sence)

Again, my understanding, based on raw specs alone
7850 better then 6870 not quite a 6950
7870 better then 6950 not quite a 6970
7890(if released) as good to better then 6970
7950 better then 6970(in most things)
7970 almost as good as 6990(with overclocking)
7990, well the best they can make and quite a bit more powerfull then any dual card AMD has ever done, its supposed to be a dual 7970 instead of a dual x950 based.

Ok, if you are going to link other sites(that are to say the least highly unverifiable) to show the actual performance of said cards, how about linking more then one. I find that one you linked VERY HARD to believe, as this would put the 570 close to 7970 performance(once overclocked) leaving the 580 noticeably faster. Also making the 7950 JUST the same speed + a touch to the 570(ahem isnt that the 6950/6970s job) which is bs considering they are as powerfull as a 580(almost equivalent to an X2 card once overclocked, even moreso in the 7970s case)

Also, your link is truly not showing the raw difference between these cards especially seeing as there is actually a pretty large difference in specs between the 7950 vs possible 7870 specs i.e shaders, tmu, rops, clock speed, bandwidth and who knows what else.

Here is one, BF3

Interesting that the ones I linked show a pretty decent margin, vs yours which shows that 570 would be more or less equivalent (therefore 580 supremely) mine shows the 7950 as being noticeable faster then 570 at same res/settings, if not more so...Huh why is that???

So, if you please, next time you call ME as an individual wrong, back it up with multiple "credible sources" as you argued MY opinion, which is not fact, its an educated guess, where pointing "leaked" benchmarks mean nada. Point period, 7870 has near identical specs to a 6950, therefore should be slightly faster(due to optimizations)near 6970 performance, 7950 IS SIMILAR to 6970 performance, once again, because of its specs.

Anyways sorry folks, didnt mean to get off track, but this poked me the wrong way :)

so, obviously my $ figures were off(probably due to no competition right now at these price points, but I was only pointing "rumors" as they were at the time)
$349 and $249 for the 7870/7850 apprently.
7870 though similar spec wise to the 6950 but ends up competing with GTX570/Radeon 6970, taking into account the GHZ edition and once clocked higher more or less identical to a GTX580 and almost a 7950 base performance. at $349 it is a good buy(but should be cheaper, however, nothing in its price range is competition for it currently, so it is a good price)

7850 however is actually pretty much on par with the 6950 2gb/560Ti overclocked, it has more Vram, and is more costly, so it doesnt seem the best purchase, but it apprently overclocks like crazy, so the price is "justifiable" to a point, but it makes it hard to argue "not" to get a 560Ti as they are +/- about the same 7850 does have slight advantage at higher res though "apprently"

Now as for the rumored 7890, I can see it happening, as giving the 7870 more shader/rops etc but limiting the clocks with increased bus bandwidth, makes sence in a certain way i.e able to play with higher settings at a higher res, the 7950 still makes sence even then, as for the 7870/7890 to compete with it, they NEED to be overclocked, the 7950 can also easily overclock, so, they all seem to have a place in the $ brackets.

I suppose the only other thing to say is, not everyone overclocks, so, the 7800 series being the 7850/7870 possible 7890 all make sence based on what is currently out there, 7900 series also end up being the fastest there is, with a very large headroom if one choose to OC, obviously because they are the fastest, they cost more, cannot expect AMD to not make $ now can we :p

Anyways, there is tons of link [H] has linked up about them, if you want to look for yourself.

Do not forget, as soon as stock clears, and Nvidia brings their "we are not worried about these" cards out, I expect these prices to drop quite a bit, if it does, AMD has won a small victory here, they have seemingly tied up the $115-$560 range at least for now, it may turn into a $90-$420 before to long.

I'm liking what I see out of the 7870 more than the 7850. I just wish I didn't just grabbed 2 6970's 3 months ago! =(

:( the 6970 are excellent cards though, the only "upgrade" really would be 7950/7970, the 7870 is more of a "sidegrade" wait to see Nvidia release thiers, these will dorp in price, then will be the right time to snag one or 2 :O
