I have an athlon 64 3000 cpu that I have overclocked and was wondering if my temps are abnormally high. I know this cpu is not supposed to get as hot as my older athlon xp, but the temps are similar 49 C, keeping in mind that my room hovers around 78 degrees are these temps to high. Also here is my configuration, I have not changed any of the voltages because I'm new to the whole overclocking thing, but it is my understanding that I really can't do to much damage by just screwing with the CPU freq and the multipler. One other question I have is, which should I trust the temp monitor in my setup screen or the AI booster that ASUS offered with the board? Sorry for the basic Q's, here's what I have in my setup screen right now. Any help or ideas to improve my computers preformance would be appreciated. I think I may be limited with my temps and computer specs. I was also wondering if anyone can recommend a good Heatsink for this CPU.

CPU Freq 244
PCI Express Clock 100mhz
CPU multiplier x9
CPU voltage 1.400 v

Right now I'm at 2.2GHz and I've heard of people going much further with these I was curious if I should just leave it be or attempt to go further. Thanks for any help.

450 watt Fortron source power supply

Revision of cpu? Anyhow 49c load isn't that bad, 49c idle is bad. Any software/bios temp monitors should be identical, just different levels of load.

It stays around 44 idle and 49 under load, that's what I get through the Ai Booster reading software that came with the ASUS board, but if I check the temp during setup it usually says around 49. Having my room temp around 80 degrees may be a huge part of my problem because I hear that these usually run in the low 40 C to high 30 C. Anyhow thanks for the help. Can you recommend a better cooler than the stock one that comes with this processor.

I just got mine running at a decent temp finnaly. Get rid of that stock cooler and go with a ZALMAN CNPS cooler. Before I put one of these on my FX 62 I was hitting 45 C at idle with stock cooler and now im down to 36 C at idle with the new cooler. I believe anything over 55 C is to hot.

Well I have a friend that has had is at about 2.8 not sure if it was stable or not but you should be able to go higher than 2.2 if you have the ram for it.

As for your temps he got his to 2.1 on stock before he didn't like the temps so you should look into some after market cooling. I have a thermaltake polo myself it does ok but I don't recommend it.

Here I am , having watched my CPU punch its way all the way to 75C.

Then again, I'm insane, and one should never let that happen.

I really need to get rid of this stock cooling...
