Asus P5LD2-vm on board sound doesn't work

just brought an Asus P5LD2-vm board with P-D 920 yesterday, after i was dissapointed that i know the D 920 cannot overclock over 235fsb, i have another problem. i added an asus spdif module to the board, installed the driver (i believe the build-in sound card is called Realtek AC97 HD audio), i see lights out from the spdif output, but both headphone jack and spdif doesn't have signal. i uninstall and reinstalled it already, updated the driver, still no luck. i check device manager i see no error. also i didn't touch the front audio panel jumper at all (asus technical support guy told me if i remove it it might cause problem). Does this sounds like a motherboard hardware problem or is the software? all my previous motherboard works as soon as i install the driver.
