hi guys, i'm struggling to get my e8400 overclocked. i don't want to exceed the intel recommended max of 1.3625V, and at that voltage the highest i can get is 3779MHz (vdroop = 1.264V according to cpuz). i'm orthos testing right now. 3880MHz failed for sure.

i've tried getting it to run at 4.0GHz but even bumping the vcore to 1.4V wasn't able to get it boot into windows.

what settings are you guys using? at least we can all get a ball park of what kinds of settings are required for this motherboard, because so far what i'm seeing on my side is that voltages are much more than others on the net.
 
What are your temps, etc, what have you...

Personally, I was happy running my E8400@3.6 (9x400) with 1.20 vcore in bios (1.096 vdroop load).

 
This might be obvious to me, but maybe it's not to you... Intel's recommended max voltages are operating voltages, not bios settings. So if you need to boost your bios up another .05 or more to get to 1.36V after vdroop, then do it. :) And if it catches fire or blows up, take pictures. :D

I don't have the same cpu as you but I do have that motherboard... Have you looked into the vdroop mod? Basically just using a graphite pencil and tracing the top of a resistor.

I think there's a massive post in this sub-forum about that board already.
 
according to real temp i idle at ~28-30C and load at ~45C, so that's not a problem.

i've scanned the massive thread, but very little of it has posts of what settings were. there is one towards the end which had the vcore at 1.5...which is more than 1.4 which means there's a possibility of degradation.

i haven't tried the vdroop pencil mod because i'm afraid i'll fry my computer parts if i overdo it.

it just seems that regular ATX motherboards can do really good overclocks, reach 4GHz easy by bumping the vcore just a little, and i'm barely able to get it stable at 3.7GHz and maxing the recommended vcore. maybe i got a bad chip in the batch, what a bummer...
 
Are you adding any voltage to nb/mch/ddr? What are temps like on the north bridge?

My CPU temps @ 3.6 are about 35 idle, 51 load - but it's in a V350. The same CPU on a GB P35-DS3L was able to push 4.0 @ < 1.4 vcore.

 
everything else is on auto. to my knowledge you only need to adjust the NB and DDR if you're overclocking the RAM right?
 
hmmmm, changing the FSB makes a huge difference!
i tried lowering the multipler to 7.5 and changing the FSB to 500. so ram is running 1:1 at 1000Mhz, and CPU clocked at 3750MHz.

left all voltages on auto and orthos ran 5 hours stable. i can live with that :p
 
weird....installing visual studio 2008 hard crashed the system....
i noticed the voltage was fluctuating all over the place because it was going from 6x to 7.5x and back and it was going 1.2V to 1.36V....would that have somethin to do with it?
