Wondering if anyone else here has this board and problem....

I'm not using the Promise controller, I have my 74GB raptor plugged into SATA1 on the VIA SATA controller.

In BIOS I have disabled the Promise controller
But do have the onchip boot rom enabled.

On each boot after it detects the hard drive it waits for something like 30 seconds before it reads teh boot device (CD that xp sp1 is on).

After proceeding the 'Inspecting Hardware Configuration is displayed', then the screen goes blank for 5 minutes. Then windows install proceeds....sees the hard drive, I format it in the setup. The setup files get copied, then the first reboot occurs and the hard drive is not detected, the cd is and it goes back into the xp startup all over again, delays included.

If I disable the Onchip ROM there are no delays, windows does the hardware inspection lightning fast.

As I understand it, the promise controller cannot be used for JBOD, only the VIA controller can be used for SATA JBOD.

Help appreciated.

Thx.
