If I have an Asus Eee PC 1005PEB, can I hook it up to my high definition TV with a USB to HMDI converter? Can the display graphics card handle it?

Thanks!!!!

No and No. Graphics can only be output through VGA, DVI, or HDMI port. Integrated Intel graphics suck, you need a discreet graphics card nVidia Ion or AMD/ATI Radeon. Even then you would need to add a Broadcom mini PCIe H/W decoder.

Bottom line is if you do not have a built in HDMI port, you cannot output HD.

Only the latest and greatest netbooks have the above requirements. Look at eePC 1201n or MSI U210/U230.

Igthorn,

That is correct. Will the netbook I bought be able to handle it from a graphics perspective? Should I go through VGA to HDMI? Or is this a lost cause, and I should just accept going from VGA to AV.

He's talking about a device like this.

It's the same technology used in this and this but for regular monitors.

I hadn't seen that, but it still does not decode HD. That has to be done by the GPU or one of these:http://www.broadcom.com/support/crystal_hd/

I still say integrated intel graphics suck.

Side note: MSI U210/230 are the only netbooks with gigabit networking and a 1.6 GHz front side buss. This is due to the AMD chipset. intel is still poking along at 533MHz. Gigabit networking matters whan you are dumping 1080p HD movies on to your netbook even if they are H.264.

I think this usb display adapter is more for presentations then movies.

Have fun

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bt1MFz07xaI There's a EeePC running 2 monitors via DisplayLink towards the end.

Should work. Seems cpu intensive. So I'm guessing surfing the web and office work would be good, video ok to so-so, and 3d games probably not very well.

The last vid says low quality 720p at best, but they are running wireless usb which is slower than wired.
