Hi is it normal for Arctic Silver 5 too be hitting almost 70 idle with Zalman 7700CU. I have never hit 50's using Céramique. Plz help. thankz

Uhh so you were below 50's with ceramique but in the 70's with AS5? No way...............

You got something mounted wrong. AS5 and ceramique are within 1C difference of eachother at the most. In my benchmarks, they are indentical. You got something wrong man, its not the AS5. :)

Also if you look at other benchmarks, the zalman cnps7700-cu is a crappy heatsink. I had that thing myself. It weighs a boatload and is huge, and still doesnt cool that great. It is about on par with the amd 4 copper heatpipe heatsink.

What cpu is that?

I just applyed the AS5 like 3 mins ago. But when i first apply Ceramique i have never had temps in the 50's. AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+

Its not the compounds. Youre doing something wrong. Wait for some other people to reply. All thermal compounds are within a 1C or so of eachother. Theres no way it would be cooling 20C better........ lmao...

Re-seat your Zalman, it's obviously not sitting on the CPU correctly.

I bet that fixes your proble

Reseated. Im just going to run some benchmarks so it sets in more.

Are you talking 70C?! I think your thermal sensor is fucked up, as you probably couldn't even boot, much less run windows. I'd clean off the old thermal paste and reapply the AS5 using only the amount shown in #9 of this guide.

It sounds like he has many times. That is a good point though. You arnt putting like the whole tube of paste on are you? Should be a small rice grain in center of cpu. A thin layer is what you want. Putting too much can actually do the opposite and make things worse.

Your sensor could definitely be messed up.

I still dont get your temps. 20C difference just from reapplying different pastes. Thats just not possible. If youre expecting it to "set in" within an hour, dont expect too much. As any experienced person will tell you, the whole "set in" period thing only makes a minimal difference. Temps might drop 1-2C at the very most after 200+ hours.
