while playing cod2, i get artifacts on some maps while in directx 9 but when i swap to directx 7 i have no problems, just lower quality and less effects (like snow or rain falling) i have gotten the latest directx 9 files and even tired a clean install of video drivers with catylst 7.4 and no luck. would it be the card? why only with directx 9 enabled and only on SOME maps not all maps???

no overclocking of video card, and resolution is native of monitor 1680x1050

Experienced a similar problem myself once, perhaps the memory is overheating. COD 2 is a graphics memory hog and on some maps with AA + AF it will consume like 350MB+ video memory (self experience with RT) and if some of the memory chips on the card are overheating they might be causing artifacts. Let me say this though, I never had the problem once I switched to a Zalman vf-900. The thing is, many people have had similar problems with X1900XT/XTX cards and heat usually turned out to be the culprit since there is a single block of metal cooling both the memory and the gpu (which is hotter than a 8800 GTS).
