Artifacting

Just a question.
What is artifacting actually caused by? is it overheating, lack of power, the memory, the core, both, all the above?
I was wondering because my card artifacts when overclocked too high so I was wondering if with better cooling or a better psu it wouldn't artifact at the same speeds instead allow more mhz to be squeezed from it.. Sorry if this is confusing, but I would appreciate any insight.
I've never really been sure about it.

So what PSU are you using?

Several things.

A bad PSU can cause issues, and can limit an OC.

Sometimes your core just wont move no matter how good your cooling setup is.

Memory, memory can only be pushed so far past its rated speeds, and like the core it sometimes just has its limits, sometimes those limits get you a 100Mhz OC, sometimes those limits get you just stock speeds.

Overheating can cause artifacting and is probably the most common cause of it. A better HSF can help here.

There's different types of artifacting, generally if you are getting missing textures, or it looks like things are ripping, its the core. White flakes almost, they look kinda like snow, is generally memory.

So to really answer you, yes it could help, it also may not help, there's no 100% answer unless you try it. Now its up to you if you want to spend the money to test or not.

and mentok currently I have 2 300w psus.. I know my psu is holding me back and I'm upgrading it with my next upgrade wave. both are generic and work, I have one running my graphics card and the rest on the other one.
