Simple Question:

Is non-heat releated artifacting detrimental to a GPU?
 
what IS it related too?

If it's not heat related, I would think that it's a sign that the card is about to fail completely. That's how my Ti4200 went.

Well I'm not sure it's detrimental but you shouldn't do it anyway's. I see now reson to run a card past it's limits. The images are distorted and artifacted and the performance tends to be worse. Most of the time you get artifacts from overclocking it's because of heat anyways. Bottom line sont do it. It's definitly not good for your card, thats for sure.

Agreed, and if it is doing it, you wil need to resolve the problem regardless of what it is.

If it is heat, then the problem will get progressivley worse. If not heat, then you have overclocked it past it's limits (maybe also heat) and might be stressing components, leading to an imminent failure.

OR: If it is stock, the thing is probably about to fail... so hopefully you have a good return policy!

PS: I see more vid card fail due to fans than anything else.

My stock fan actually died last night (one of the fan blades fell off, lodged itself under some other blades, and burned out the motor) so I stuck on an ATI Silencer 4 (AWESOME!!!), temps definitley aren't an issue.

Please note that I'm not running my card at an unstable overclock, I'm only asking because as I continue to screw around with the card and see where I can get it stable I get massive artifacts causing GPU crashes. Assuming a GPU is like a CPU, a crash is nothing to be overly concerned about, but I just thought I would ask.
