How much of this do you apply to an athlon 64bit 3500? My mums boyfriend applied the paste on the cpu and he told me he put the whole tub of it on.... I am no expert but i dont think that is a good idea?

Its a bit late now but how much paste is needed for this processor?

You put an amount about the size of a BB (the air-gun type) in a dob at the centre of the chip. Then you lower the heatsink slowly and evenly down onto the chip and itll spread itself out without airbubbles. If your paranoid you could try an amount, lower the chip, check if it was enough, clean the AS5 off, then do it again to make yourself happy

You could also do the old spread it with a credit card way but its not recommended for new cpus. But overall, you don't need much at all. The thinner the layer is(so long as its contacting both surfaces), the better, simple as that.

I'd double check the bit about not spreading it evenly over the surface of the chip. I'm pretty sure you have to do this rather than relying on the pressure of the heatsink to spread it over the entire surface.

Read arctic silvers site, it says to do what i said. You don't need to spread it over the entire chip as its just a heatspreader. The actual core thats generating the heat is only in the very centre and is about the size of an AMD XP core. Just let the HSF spread the stuff out, it works alot better

if he already put the whole thing, take it out, and clean the cpu....
or you'll have a BIG ASS mess...
