I read the artic silver instructions and it says you have to wipe the artic silver compound off the heatsink after rubbing it for a while... is this true? what will happen if i dont?

and if i do have to wipe it off what do i use?

by the way I'm using a thermalright slk-947U heatsink

That step is used to fill in the microscopic holes in your heatsink g.
If you dont do it, nothing will happen, you just might have higher temps. The best material to use to wipe it off is a coffee filter, no alcohol or anything, just a dry coffee filter. Word to ya mutha.

Retarded. Thoroughly retarded.....

Back on topic...

The coffee filter is not a good idea because it's not lint free. It will leave remnants.

You can use something harder or more dense to wipe it off, but you don't want to use anything that'll leave stuff behind.

Even if it does leave stuff behind, it wouldn't matter that much, but if your'e concerned about filling the HS's valleys before applying the compound again, you'll probably want to use remnant free cloth.

Never heard that coffee filters have lint, say it doesn't right here . If I am wrong, thanks for the correction. But I think you might just need to get some better filters, like Mr Coffee brand. Mr Coffee is dope!

If kimwipes are good enough for quartz cuvettes for UV/Vis spectrometers, and refractometers, they're good enough for my heatsink ;)

Why is mr coffee stupid? Works for me?

Credit card works for me too!

Note:
Arctic Silver 5 is much thicker than our earlier silver compounds and it is very difficult to rub it into the base of the heatsink. With it's superior flow characteristics, the tinting steps can be skipped when using Arctic Silver 5

Thats why I use a credit card to schmeer a thin layer on my HS, seems to work ?
