A teenager, believed to be the ringleader international cyber-crime group, was arrested and questioned by authorities yesterday. According to the report, he could face charges which carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

The FBI estimates that 1.3 million computers were under the control of "Akill" and more than US$25m (£12.1m) was illegally embezzled. The 18-year-old was detained in New Zealand's North Island city of Hamilton.

they have things very similar to botnots in prison...except the one person controlling all the zombie PCs is called THE WARDEN and PC stands for Prisoner in Custody. :D

After being questioned "Akill" was released without charge

hmm, good thing there was a good enough case built up against him to question him, but not actually detain him. nice

WHAT?! released!? WTF!

he needs to be lashed 100x and have his hands cut off, so he can't type!!

HE will be offered a job probably from Microsoft. They either need someone who can destroy all working copies of old MS OS's or a miracle to get people to switch to vista.:)

Kids will be kids.

I'd rather him be doing this than out raping and killing. The money can be returned and was probably an inconsequential amount from each user he skimmed off.

When and if he matures one day he could plausibly be a great asset to the technological world... and in a way he already has been as the methods to catch cyber criminals are proving effective. This will definitely aid in catching further cyber crooks.

If this is the asshat who kept DDOSing my server I'd like a shot at him with a steel toed boot. Something to ensure he can't reproduce, and not just because he'll never get a girlfriend.

Plenty of sheep and no women , can we really blame him ? :)
j/k glad they got him.

It was probally one this dumb shits ancestors that help Syphilis.

Just because they released him does't mean they won't charge and convict him.
if he is convicted he probably won't get more that a year in prison, if the sentence is only a year he can apply for "home detention".
