Has anyone been able to get to Arecas ftp site the past 3 days? I continuously get "connection refused". How can they let it be down for days at a time and expect to sell high end raid controllers?

Their mirror site is still up. You might want to email tech support with a packet dump; it might be working for them but not the rest of the world. If traceroute (or tracert on NT) works at your site (my university drops ICMP :rolleyes: ) send that too.

 
Actually, the mirror was down too when I tried to get to it I had two friends in different states w/ different ISP's try to get to either ftp site & they also got connection refused.

In any case, I grabbed the latest, and the 1.02 drivers, and _NEITHER_ will see the card. When windows installs (after I press F6 & load the driver), I get "no hard disks were found", etc.

Suggestions? I'm ready to toss this thing across the room.
 
Does the areca bios detect the drives fine and have you setup an array along with initialized it?

I have not used an areca with windows but in linux never had any trouble on them with both huge and smaller arrays.

Yes, the array finds all the drives & I have setup a Raid 5 of 4 * 400G, no problem. Also initialized the array (took a couple hours IIRC).

Any other suggestions?

I have written to them, but am seriously looking for another pci-e x4/8/16 raid controller that actually works. I had none of these problems with my 3ware for installs. I was looking for a 3ware for this 1U before I went with areca, but 3ware does not make a pci-e 4 port controller card.

I was thinking maybe I needed to upgrade the bios/firmware on the areca, but everything I've read seems to require a webserver/ip address for this. Not sure how I'm supposed to do this if I don't even have an OS installed yet.
 
Areca wrote back after 24 hours and said when doing the F6 install, not to use a USB FLoppy :rolleyes: I had already tried a normal floppy before contacting them....I guess I'll have to see how it plays out.
 
Installing to an array is generally a bad idea. What's this machine for? You might want to try installing to a single disk, installing the Areca drivers in that Windows install, then Ghosting onto an array and see if that works, if you really need Windows on the array.
 
I would recommend just adding a disk to the card and making it a pass through drive and installing the os on there. I believe that is the main purpose for the pass through disk or using it as a backup disk that is hot swappable.
