I want to use the Areca 1230 in an upcoming build, and plan on using an opteron as the processor because it will do more than just serve files. The question I have is that the raid card uses PCE x8, and I have no idea what mobos support that. Also, can this card be bridged with another?
 
PCIe x16 is common now, and it works fine with a x8 card.

Just get a board that supports SLi and you can run two of them @ x8 with the board in sli mode.

As for multiple adapters, it seems to indicate so in the manual.
 
"Bridged" in what sense? I believe you can put multiple cards in a single system, and I think making a single array across multiple controllers works as well.
