im thinking about building a shuttle system. maybe with a SK83G. are there any down-sides to using a shuttle. i'll have an Athlon 64 3200+, 2gb ram, and a 9800pro. there shouldnt be any problems regarding power right?? thanks.

Well, any platform will have problems. The power supply though should be fine for what you are sticking in it. 2Gb of ram? 1Gb modules, correct? There are only to memory slots on most of Shuttles XPC boxes.

The only thing I can complain about with regards to the Shuttle boxes and the Athlon64's is heat. While the ICE system kicks much ass, the case ventilation is too weak at times to remove the amount of heat the cpu generates. Thats why most mods pertain to removing the rear grill and changing out the 80mm fan. The internals will get a bit cramped which makes them somewhat difficult to work on if you have large hands. Compound this by the fact that Shuttle's email support is the worst. In the past 6 months, I've sent three emails off with no response with regards to heat, noise, and improper temps being reported (MBM or SpeedFan) for the CPU.If you get a box, bookmark SFFTECH.COM, especially their forums. Kick ass in case you do run into issues.

Hope this helps,

-E
