I have been charged with purchasing a 24 port Layer 2 Managed switch at my work. I am the linux server admin, so i understand what that is, however i have hard very little first hand experience with that type of networking equipment.
We had decided on a 3com 4400, however when i called a local reseller, they tried to sell me an Asante, said it was quality equipment, just inexpensive. Im curious if that is a good brand to go with.
The Switches:
http://www.asante.com/products/productsLvl3/GX5_424W.asp - $570
and then basically the same switch with Polycom POE (for our phones) - $1100
If you can enlighten me to where would be the best place to buy a switch (online maybe?) also if you have a recomendation on a switch other thant the asante that would be great.
This is what we need:
24 10/100 ports
layer 2 managed
qos (part of layer 2 i think)
vlan (also part of layer 2?)
