are artifacts fixable?

I sometimes get them and sometimes npt, I aint overclocking and running everything at stock, I have a NV silencer that is making poor contact with the ram on my card and I am ordering a zalman in a few days.

are these artifacts going to go away, friday I gamed all night problem free, saturday I gamed but not much and all of a suddun my desktop started getting garbled and rthdribl was generating artifacts, then I changed drivers and cleaned out my card and it was fixed so I gamed all night saturday problem free and I went for a round of BF2 and had artifacts right off, rthdribl shows artifacts but no all the time.

is this fixable, is it due to bad contact of the silencer and ram?
 
I started getting artifacts on a passively cooled Radeon 9200, I managed to fix it temporarily by downclocking it but it just got worse over time.
 
I dont understand though, the rtifacts dont happen all the time just sometimes, I just finished almost an hour of BF2 and no problems but ten minutes after I tried again and I had artifacts, WTH
 
If you restart your computer or let it cool down and don't see artifacts, you're fine. Your card is most likely just overheating. And if that's the case then your new Zalman cooler is going to work wonders.
 
well that good news, but rivatuner is reporting great temps, 51 core and 37 ambient. but It has only been on forabout 15 minutes. thats how they normaly are though
 
what temp is the vRAM running at under load? :rolleyes:
If the core temp is fine and your getting artifacts, I would start to suspect poor contact with the vRAM chips...
 
I am not sure how to get a temp reading from the vram, I am positive that the vram is not getting the reqiured contact with the NV silencer. its weird though, I have been gaming for a good 2 hour strech and no artifacts.
 
artifacting can happen from 2 things

1 - (most common) overheating / overclocking - the way to solve it is
--- a. - downclock from where you are
--- b. - get better cooling
------ 1) increase airflow of case and around the videocard
------ 2) remove heatsink, reapply thermal paste and reseat heatsink

2 - bad ram or bad core - sometimes nothing can fix this but RMA'ing the card.
--- a. could have static charge damage to the ram, etc..
--- b. messed up core for some unknown reason.
(though sometimes downclocking below default can minimize the problem)
 
well if it was a bad ram module, I would amagine that I would continue to have the problem but for now it has gone away so I am thinking that it may be overheating the vram.
