Ill be getting a new sapphire 6950 (dual fan); in the next couple of days; not sure what type of TIM there is and how the gpu/hs is ... I know there is a copper base to work with.

Has anyone 'messed' with lapping (the heatsink) or using arctic silver on their gpu? If so it is advisable or should I just leave it at stock?

typically the stock stuff is good enough unless its put on wrong, but remember removing and changing the TIM void's the warranty(except with ASUS, EVGA, XFX) so unless its something that's absolutely needed i wouldn't bother. also i like using MX2 instead of AS5 on gpus.

if your gonna change tim on gpu's, stick with the non-conductive stuffs; mx2, ceramique, few others.
