ARC100 racking up gigs

Sky high gigs in only 8 hours. Installed 10 and a few programs, that's it.

OCZ states 20G/day and I'm at almost a month already.

Speeds are rather poor too, latest RST and I can't even reach SATAII speeds.

My first SSD, just want to know if this is normal or not.

How could I rack up so many gigs in such short time?

I have since pulled it with over 1,000GB in 24 hours when 20gigs is the max per day per OCZ.
 
You should simply find out what writes to SSD. (process explorer or ressource monitor)
Host writes are what the drive receives from the OS, this is not a problem caused by the SSD.
If you install a lot, you write a lot of data.
But if you have already 10 complete drive writes in a single day, there is something writing almost constantly.
 
Correct me if I'm wrong but running the benchmark is also recognized as writes/reads.
Maybe also due to that together with the OS and applications install leads to this peak of usage in the first few days.
 
As Omniscence mentioned. You most likely have something else pounding on the drive.
 
Read somewhere with SSD you want to turn off fetch and prefetch?
I'll have to go dig through the 7 forum on tips/tricks.

I did a few benches but 1000GB of data seems excessive.

Suppose as long as smart does not start flagging it's within the specs.

Reivews for the Arc100 show closer to 450/450 not 250/250.
I am using it on a SataII controller but it's not saturated.

When it was new and empty I tested on a SataIII and the numbers were the same.

Still faster then my ES.3 drives by quite a bit.
 
1TB in 24 hours on a 120GB drive which is just a standard OS volume. Either you have something running in the background pounding the drive as mentioned above or there is something wrong with the drive.
 
Drive appears fine, bit slower then it should be but all SMART is within spec.

Certainly something is pinging the drive too often so to speak, no idea what though.

Task manager looks normal.

Once a day MWB does a scan, maybe between that and AV it what is racking up the gigs.

Neither of these should be write operations. The writes should be minimal.

I just don't get it, installing 10 and a few small programs, I looked at the counter in crystal and seen those numbers.
I then remember the ad for the ARC is 20/day and I was way over that is less then a day.

Edit, did some research and the board I am using, P35 the OROM is 7.5 [can't upgrade] which does not support TRIM.

Could be both the reason for the slower read/writes and the high gigs as cells written to and erased are not clearing out?

Guess I should have installed 10 on a bit of a newer system then 8 years old but I certainly did not want to do it on my new system.

Attached to my Marvell sata3 controller card and fired it up running native ACHI.
No idea if trim is working, reads improved but writes went down.

If you have the pagefile on the SSD, best to move that to a spindle drive.
If you have firefox, that constantly updates its database, so, move that to a spindle drive as well.
Hit ctrl+ left shift + esc, under performance tab, hit 'resource monitor' at the bottom.
Then click the disk tab, and look at what is writing the most.
 
240 hours and now down to 98%, that's nuts. At this rate the ARC100 will be worn out within the year.

Either something in 10 is making it rack up gigs or the ARC100 is just not very robust.

For my first SSD I must say I am rather disappointed and expected better.
