ARC-1260 Raid Set missing

I have had a raid set that failed on an Areca 1260 controller.
The set consisted of 5 WD green drives 1TB drives in a Raid 5 configuration.
These are the System Event messages from the BIOS

2013-07-04 16:46:44 IDE Channel 5 Device Failed
2013-07-04 16:46:44 TachyonRaid05 RaidSet Degraded
2013-07-04 16:46:44 TachyonRaid05 Volume Failed
2013-07-04 13:07:02 H/W Monitor Raid Powered On

The Raid Set and Volume set are no longer visible/available
Note that all 5 drives now appear as free from the physical drive menu in the BIOS

Serial#: Y618CAANAR600045
Disks: WD10EACS-00D6B1

I think that I have to enter the Raid Set Rescue menu from the BIOS or Web GUI and Type RESCUE, then re-boot. This is supposed to bring the raid set back. Do I need to do anything else?

Yes I have contacted Areca tech supposrt and I am awaiting a response.

Any help on how to best recover the data would be appreciated.

P.S. When I recover the data I plan to create a new raid set using WD caviar Red drives 2TB

Before you do ANYTHING, some questions. Do you have the layout of your array (Raidset & Volumeset) squirreled away somewhere? Most importantly stripe and block size choices. Are the drives still in their original order physically how they were connected to the card? Lastly, do you have 5 spare drives of at least the same size as the array members that you can make bit-perfect backups of your existing drives prior to trying anything, so you can always go back to a fresh set in case anything goes wrong and you wish to try another tactic to recovery?

The array was a 5 drive raid 5.
I do not have the block size, but I probably did not change the default if there was one.
won't make that mistake again

I have not pulled any drives so they are in the same order still attached to the same controller.
I have 5 x 2tb drives on order.

I have the new drives and made the backup using did recuse... What's next?

Thanks very much for the backup advice... That is what saved me.
Of course the first, second and third thing I tried failed, so the backup was crucial.

Finally LeVeL2ReScUe was what worked. I recovered all my files.

The reason this worked is because it detected a previously failed drive and did not include it in the array.
Other methods including RESCUE all included the failed drive so while I was get some files back I was not getting all of them back.

I hope this helps others as well.
