Last night, another [H] member helped me get my GPUs folding in Ubuntu without wrestling the APU graphics. The APU boxen were folding with a point loss under Win 7. APUs are a lot cheaper than even used Intel chips. Now I can expand my farm with a lot less jack:D I was curious if anyone else was using APUs in Linux based boxen?

Clarification: I'm not folding on the APU's graphics. You're right, it's not powerful enough to seriously fold on the GPU or CPU. I'm using the APUs cores for "advanced" GPU clients. Linux only supports this type of GPU slot. Would it be better to build boxen with APUs or Intel chips? Yes, APUs use more power, but they cost much less than i7s.

I'm not entirely sure but I don't believe that they would have very good ppd. The CPU itself is probably too weak with only 4 cores and the GPU could probably get some work done, but the ppd/watt would probably not be very good. The ppd itself probably wouldn't be very good either. You can always experiment with what you've got to see how it does though. No harm in that! I've got a Kaveri incoming, so I suppose I could see how it does at folding before unleashing it on boinc.
