I'm getting some AS5, and was wondering how you guys like to apply it. Are Q-Tips pretty good to use?

defiantly don't use q-tips for spreading as5. parts from the q-tip would probably get mixed in with some of the as5, which would only hurt its cooling abilities.
 
What i do is grab a small plastic bag (You get a ton of these when you order new parts so you shouldn't be running low). I place a rice grain size drop on the cpu core and after placing my finger inside the plastic bag i gently rub it onto the core until i get a fine almost transparent look.

Don't ever use Cotton buds (Q-Tips as you call them) :)

that sounds like a good idea!

I use a clean credit card edge... but, I might have to use some saran wrap or plastic bag like piehole.
