Ok so here is my question....Hands down what do you people think about the 30" lcd by apple. Quality wise and price does not matter. I need to know if it is a monitor worth getting. I need some input on this matter. To playing games to surfing the internet what do you think of the monitor...Please write back and let me know what you guys and gals think of it. :cool:

Price and quality doesn't matter?
So what do we have to form an opinion on? Just the size of the LCD?
 
So far, doesn't seems like there are much video card out there that support dual link DVI.
 
if you use a PC, youll never be able to use it.

you wont be able to game on it, even if you are on a mac. no games support that resolution.
 
They mention on Apple.com that the new screens should work on PC. Maybe they mean the 30 incher to?

I just was curious about the quality....the price does not matter at but everything else does tell me what u think on what you've heard.

Not to step on anyone's toes by these comments, but you obviously missed the information. It doesn't matter if you can afford this monitor, it won't game on the PC. The only compatible card is being sold through Apple for their G5.

You're also missing the big picture of how this monitor has yet to be released to the press for comprehensive review. Go buy a G5 and the monitor, then satisfy your curiosity.
 
IMHO the 30 incher is a bit to big at the moment.

I think a 23 inch widescreen will do fine for the next couple of years.
 
I have been using a 20" sony for 6 yr., and there isn't remotely enough space on screen. So i have to disagree on the above. 30" serves me just fine. I don't need to play games all the time, I need the monitor to do real work, and games only pops in the evening, besides,

Ahem...you just run the games at a resolution that is the same aspect ratio. No biggie... :confused:

The monitor isn't even out yet. (If you order one you willl get it in 2-4 weeks, I think) SO just be patient.

Since no one has one there aren't any reviews out so that's a pretty hard question to answer. The older line of Cinema display were of a very high quality (at that time). So this display will probably be awesome aswell.

Plus, this is the only display that has such a resolution. Sure, there is a 22" IBM/Viewsonic that does 3840x2440 (or something similar) but it is at 200dpi so text is nearly impossible to read.

There are already 4 video cards that can run this res. and support DUal link DVI.

Fire GL v7100

Nvidia FX3400 and FX3000, and FX3000g
 
Happy is correct, those cards to support it (along with many other higher end workstation cards). Look into some of the mods to turn retail consumer versions of cards into these "workstation" counterparts, as the hardware is usually the same.

As for not being able to play games, games using directx/d3d dont have set resolutions they run at, they use whatever directx says they can use. So, you can play counterstrike at 3840x2400 on this:

oh, and text is easy to read! Some of the better laptops have dpi ratings that high ;) Besides, you can scale everything to whatever you want. Personally, the smaller the better.
 
I try that monitor. It's more for CAD. As it is very small for text in a 23" when you view it at 3840x2400. It's like an eye exam. I rather have the HP, but then again, I rather get a 30" LCD when LG-Philip rel. its PC ver.
 
the 6800u DOES support the display, but i think u may need some software to go with it. and u can just play a game at a non-native resolution. even HALF its native resolution would still look damn good.
 
That's the problem isn't it? There is no video card today, even the FX3000 or FX3400 series, that support a native 2560x1600, they jumped from 2048x1536 to 3840x2048, there doesn't seems to be anything in btwn.
 
video cards can support whatever they're told to support to an extent, thus the ability to make custom resolutions in power strip. WIth the monitors drivers, and combined dvi outputs, you should be able to handle just about anything (within reason).

when you said power strip, are you referring to the software Power Strip 3.5 or the actual power strip?

Regardless, does anyone have problem creating Custom resolution, is it there any issue with it or is it an easy thing to do w/ no problem on games, application software, operating system etc.?
