Apogee GTX backplate??

Mine came with a backplate but the installation instructions make no mention of it whatsoever.
I went to Swiftech site and no mention of it other than in the parts list.
 
I don't really want to stick this thing to the back of my motherboard.

The instructions that came with the block don't mention it..............

Am I gonna crack my motherboard if I don't use this thing? Yes, no, maybe?
 
Don't remove the adhesive layer then. You're not forced to use the backplate at all. However, using the backplate will prevent your motherboard from bowing and ensure the block receives the correct mounting pressure.

I guess once it's on there it probably makes life a little easier.
Gonna install it now and check it out.
 
I just got an Apogee GTX the other day, I have no backplate.

I got: a small bag with a washer and an allen wrench, the mounting screws and washers,the barbs and washers, some clamps and ArcticCeramique,and the instructions.
Of course the most beautiful ApogeeGTX.

Are you mounting an Intel 775 or an AMD CPU ?????

I went with the posts after all. The backplate is no bueno for me. Unless you want to stick it to your motherboard, you have to install it right when your putting the block on and it uses spacers instead of the springs and I like the variable tension that springs allow.

Did the bowing with the oversize o-ring and mine went in without a problem and DAMN........you can see that it is bowed. The 4 corners where the screws are, are touching the top but the space inbetween the corners is visibly bowed and you can see part of the o-ring. :eek:
It turned out nice though. I was careful to really vary up and cross around while I was tightning things up and you can see that the base is now slightly convex.

Everything is here but the proc. Waiting for people to clear out the B3 quads and then SHAZAM!!

Got 2 120mm holes cut in the top of the case today and installing the rad so.........................I'm ready!!

Call Swiftech up or email Michelle. They'll send you a backplate free of charge if you act soon. They said it was a limited time offer about 15 days ago for a 30 day period. She'll ask for proof of purchase via Email.

If you're going to bow your block, I'd seriously consider using the backplate as it will guarantee a solid mount. Without the use of a backplate, and having a bowed block and lead to wild variations in temps. If you decide to not use the backplate, then make sure you remount several times to make sure you're getting the best possible mount.
 
I haven't put it in the case yet so I can still change my mind. I hear what your saying and the thought crossed my mind after I thought about it for a little bit. Just kinda makes sense you know. I just hate those damn spacers and frankly, I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around how I am going to hold the backplate against the motherboard while I try to seat my block sticking 4 screws through the motherboard to the backplate all while getting a good seat.
I really really wish they had thought of a way to use the backplate and still have the posts with springs like the regular installation.
No way I'm stickying that thing to my motherboard cause I know in a year I'm going to sell it and don't want to be trying to pry off a damn backplate.

Did your mb come with a back plate? I managed to modify my stock back plate that came with my A8N-SLI Deluxe board by drilling out the threads and using a standard machine screw.
 
I am getting the p35 DQ6 mobo and the parts are on their way. Would I have a problem mounting the back plate

Ask someone to lend a pair of hands or do it one spacer at a time.
 
The back plate comes off fairly easy if you heat it up a bit and pull from one corner, no big deal really and the sticky glue from the pad comes right off with a little WD40 on a rag and your finger tip..............:p . Things go one heck of a lot easier with the plate stuck to the MoBo.............:eek:
 
Is this backplate a separate piece?????
Is it necessary???? I guess not since I didnt get one.
This is the first I've heard of such a thing.

I do not plan to bow the heatsink, so will I be alright not using a backplate????
 
You should be fine with out one. Most boards its not a problem. Just install it slow read manual twice then install once;)

Hey if your motherboard has a steel backplate allready, like the Asus M2n32 boards have .Dont worry about it . If your board has a cheapo plastic backplate stock ,then just use the new metal backplate for what ever waterblock you are using and do not remove the adheasive film;) For me this offers a lil more peace of mind and no unwanted board warpage.The key is to only tighten enuff to almost not move the block with least amount of thermal paste.

Note: Always tighten the four hold downs in a crissxcross patern untill the springs are halfway compressed or block is snug!:D
 
The back plate that they are talking about is a LGA775 only unit, it wasn't shipped with the original GT/GTX blocks and was just recently released by Swiftech. Swiftech also had a free upgrade program for those folks that bought their blocks before the plates were released. All you needed to do was contact Swiftech with proof of purchase and they would send you one for free.

The socket 775 motherboard back plate kit is now available and compatible with all Apogee series Waterblocks. It allows a safe "hard mount" of all Apogee series Waterblocks for an optimum contact patch without excessive bend of the motherboard.

It includes a specially designed back plate compatible with all known socket 775 motherboards at the time of release. Special attention was given to clear all the small components located behind the motherboard, such as those present in the early versions of the EVGA i680 board.

The back plate also features strong sticky pads to prevent it from falling when the Waterblock is removed. Two sets of nylon spacers are included in the pack, one for Apogee, Apogee GT, and one for Apogee GTX.

Effective today, all Apogee series Waterblocks will be shipped with this new back plate and mounting hardware, thus replacing the current spring mounts for socket 775 motherboards.

The backplate to my GTX has a white foam piece on it... do I remove that? I know I remove the thin layer of plastic on the copper heatsink, but what about the white foam on the back plate?
 
The white foam on the backplate has a peeloff as well to make it stick to the back of your motherboard.

Kinda funny I wrote this thread 2-3 months ago. Got scared about not using the backplate. Tried to use the backplate and it was messed up. Then after all that I am back to using the posts and springs like I originally had it and to think I went all this time.
