Alright, I'm helping my friend whos running a socket A barebones AOpen EZ18 with stability problems.

I can't seem to figure it out but the system just keeps locking up and not providing any output to the monitor and all hdd activity stops.

The system is:
amd athlon xp 2800+
seagate baracuda 200gb
onboard graphics (for the time being)
128mb of kingston ram

This is the setup we're using to try to initially install xp and other programs on the computer.

edit: I meant 2800+ not 1800

Randomly, We just switched it out the athlon for a duron and are running lower clocks on lower voltage.

So it locks up while running Windows? I'm still thinking you PSU is crappy, or maybe the motherboard is. Is it running better with the Duron? Then it might be the CPU. It could also be your memory.

You have to narrow down your search by switching out parts and seeing what that does..

Yeah, we concluded it was the combination of the crappy settings, cpu, and power supply. The athlon still works fine when we put it in my old system.
