It's not designed to stack up against them both. It's more of a vCenter product for managing multiple Hyper-V hosts. I've used it a little and didn't see too much incredibly different from SCVMM2008.
Am looking forward to Live Storage Migration, SMB 3.0, and VM Replication in Hyper-V 3.

How is the system center suite in managing a windows environment hosted on vcenter/vsphere?
We have 250 VMs right now across two sites and two vcenter servers. While vCenter works fine for managing the hosts, the VMs are more of a pain. We use vCOPS but that still is mostly focused on the virtual side and not really the VMs themselves.

What aspect are you looking to manage specifically? I have experience with SCCM2012 but not much SCOM2012 myself.
The new System Center suite as a whole is more in line with competing with vCloud Director/vCenter etc.. and SCVMM is just part of that.
You have to add vCOPs and vCM in that mix too.
I'm actually more interested in the creation and self-provisioning of cloud services (VMs and vApps), we had a brief demo from microsoft and from what I remember it looked pretty easy for them to create a a multi-tier vApp with SCVMM... just wondering if anyone's used 2012 to do that and their thoughts on it.
