Anyone use SCSI?

Yeah, I have 3 server that run scsi, 10k, 15k rpm drives in them. I have a raid-5 array setup as mirrored drives that run a scsi interface, most of my setup contains Compaq Proliant series equipment.

The 3 servers in the basement run F@h on them, a single processor 400mhz, a dual 500mhz and a quad p3 xeon at 500mhz 1mb.
 
I use scsi for my gaming drive, which also runs multiple torrents and my apps drive which usually gets pretty hard as well. my server also runs a pair of drives in software raid 1 on freebsd.
 
My main graphics workstation here at the shop is all SCSI. It's an IBM Z-Pro dual 3.2 Xeon rig with a hardware U320 RAID controller and a total of 7 U320 15K 146GB drives. 3 internal and 4 external in an external enclosure. It IS an exepnsive way to go but can be wicked fast and ultra reliable. At home I do not - in my opinion it just too expensive to justify for home use and really is only intended for use in high end workstations and servers.
 
I run a 73 GB Fujitsu MAS3735NP 15k SCSI drive for my primary drive on my main rig.
 
I was running SCSI in my main machine, a pair of 36gig Cheetahs, but decided to replace both with a WD RE 16meg cache 250gig SATA drive.
the scsi drives were too hot and not large enough (storage-wise) so I cloned them to the WD and put them in a drawer as a system backup.
My cheetahs were the 1st gen 10K rpm drives, and were nice and fast a few years ago, but the newer crop of IDE and SATA 7200rpm drives seem much faster.
 
I know I'm a SCSI h8r, but I actually have quite a few SCSI drives.

I've got a Maxtor Atlas Atlas 15K II (World's fastest HDD :p), along with a set of 6 Quantum Atlas 36GB Atlas 10K IIs in my Dell PowerEdge 4400. My main file server has a MAP3367NP (need ATA level capacity for the rest of the drives in this one). Also representing SCSI, I have a Compaq 18GB 15K in my Proliant DL580. Sitting in a drawer, I have a pair of ST173404LCVs.

I'm actually planning a major SCSI offensive...stay tuned.
 
I use SCSI more than you could possibly imagine... Looking around just now I think I can see probably at least 500 SCSI or SAS drives just in my general vicinity :)

I was just wondering because I found some old Cheetahs and Barracudas, the cheetas are 18.3GB / 15K RPM, I was thinking about using this stuff. However I think they are U160. Not sure exactly what to do. I have 7 SCSI drives totalling 220GB. Some old, some ancient.
 
I have 2x 36GB 10k rpm, 2 18GB 10k rpm and 1x 9GB 10k rpm SCSI drives in my server. My CDROM and floppy in the same system are both SCSI as well. I am truly [H]; my floppy is SCSI!! :p
 
Got 3x 36 GB SCSI drives in my dually P3 1 GHz FreeBSD workstation.
Got 14x 36 GB SCSI's in a 408 GB RAID5 array, the computer that controls it has two 18 GB drives in a RAID1 mirror.
Got tons of older SCSI drives ranging from 500 MB to 18 GB, and a few 73 gig units somewhere I'll stick in my next gaming rig.

All told I have 19 SCSI drives in use, and about 5 ATA, so you could say I use SCSI :D
 
The only thing I don't use it for is my gaming rig... everything else has it :D

BTW; I think I'll restate my claim for lowest operating temperature on any HDD - 26C on a Hitachi 10K147 73GB during defrag. :D

I was just pulling your leg. If I had the dough to afford it, I'd love to run SCSI and I am sure so would everybody else, but us regular people will just have to live with consumer stuff.

a lot depends on what you want to do. need a webserver? great for that.
i like my scsi drives on my mega raid controller. very happy with on webserver, but you might want to sell them too. there are lot of ppl selling, buying in the forums also. then you need to know how many pins, model # etc.
I would run them if you ask me, but if you dont already have a controller, then by the time you buy a good scsi controller, you are back to spending money you could have used toward enhancing your current setups
