Anyone know a good online newbie guide for C++??

Hi, as the subject says I'm looking for a basic online guide for Microsoft C++. If anyone can help it would be most appreciated.

Find Bruce Eckels free 600 or so page book on C++- "Thinking in C++". PDF, doc and html versions out there, legally downloadable.

Allot of the code in that book doesnt seem to want to run for me. Using Visual Studio 6 with Windows XP.. Should I update the software or try and get the .Net version.
