So according to this article at BeHardware,

UPdate 10/19/05:The first monitors of this type might be released by Toshiba in 2007. Canon speaks of computer monitors end of 2006, early 2007. Their price? In principle the same than LCD and plasmas for the same diagonal. We can’t wait to test them.

If that's true... hell yeah! Everyone I know has been going LCD, but ever since I found out about SED a couple years ago I've been holding out. Soon the wait will be over, hopefully. :)

Hell yeah I'm excited about SED! I have a 17 inch LCD right now that I'm very fond of, but the idea of a thin display with near infinite contrast, nill response time, and no light bleeding makes me happy. In the pants.

Question: Because SEDs are similar to CRTs in certain ways (electrons hitting phosphorus), would that mean a return of that horrible whine that CRTs make? I'm one of those people who always hears it.

I'll wait until the usual new techology price gouging is over and more manufacturers are onboard before I get excited. ;)

You're probably looking at another year until the technology is mature and at an affordable price. I'm hyped too, but there's no way I am buying an early model. :)

Me too, but as the previous poster said, your not going to see it in mass production and reasonable prices until mid-late 08, IF there are no delays.

I doubt SED computer monitors will be released that soon with a new technology. I would think they would try to sell to the high-end TV enthiust market where they might be able to compete in price. Then gradually sell cheaper TVs for mid-range/low-range ect, then we'll start to see SED computer monitors.

Yeah, I would expect 2010 earliest for computer monitor. Canon is no longer making any mention of computer monitors at all. So don't hold your breath. Back when 20" LCD monitors were close to $1000 they might have thought about it, but now they can't compete with $300 monitors.

The early reporst of SED displays from expos indicate that they flicker--i.e. the pixels don't stay keep their state until it's changed, but turn off at the end of the frame. I hope this will be corrected as production models appear, but as for now, I'm not particularly psyched...

I was 2 years ago  I'm seriously having my doubts about it being affordable anytime soon and that's if SED ever takes off

Why release SED now, when the masses are finally getting sold on LCD technology? Might as well milk the LCD market for a few more years, then get everyone to switch to SED.....
