If so, what performance do you get out of it ?

I am working on this at home with iscsid on freebsd.

Playing with OpenFiler at home. Using sofware RAID 5 on 3 500GB 7200.10's and a IDE boot drive for it.

Using iSCSI from my XP box over gigabit I get ~45MB/s whereas my roommate to the same server using iSCSI from his Vista Ultimate 64bit computer and the same gigabit lan gets ~65MB/s

Hm, with my old windows xp box (before I switched to linux) to a raid0 of 2 * 200G drives I got about 18MB/second...???? a dd if=/dev/zero of=/mnt/filename gave me about 60-80M/second. I wonder where the problem is.

I work in storage so I've built tons of SAN's.

Actually, that's all I do.

Performance depends on what equipment, drive, connection, etc. In your case it seems acceptable.
