Just curious if anyone here is PMP certified?

So I tend to have early morning discussions with my companies CIO. In discussing about Project Managers, he mentioned he is PMP certified and would love to have more in the company (internal or external).

He was very kind enough to buy me the PMBOK Project Management Body of Knowledge book. Of which I am now starting to read/take notes. Also watching a few videos on Youtube such as cbtnuggets and what not.

Just curious anyones thoughts on this route of IT? And thoughts of study guides that are better than others?

thanks!

It is the premier certification in the project management field and one of the best certifications to invest time in. There are a handful of requirements that have to be met before you can sit for the exam. They are:

Educational: You have to have taken so many educational hours from an educational provider registered with the PMI.

Experience: You have to have managed so many project hours. If you have a degree, the number of hours required is less than if you don't.

From there you can sit for the exam.

The PMP is a fantastic certification, but it literally requires you to have years of actual project management experience to pass the audit. Most people do take classes or bootcamp through PMI to pass the course. If you're interested in going that path, start gaining the job experience if necessary, and look at other entry level PM certifications for instance the capm also though PMI. It only requires 1500 project management hours to pass audit.
