Looking at round cables from Newegg. ANy reason the Antec cables are more expensive? Or are round cables pretty much all the same?

I've been using the coolermaster withgreat success. Just remember when your buying cables for ATA 100/133 make sure you only get as many connectors on their as you actually need. Say you only have one HDD, you only need a 2 connector cable, not a 3.

BRAIDED round cables are the best.

I like the coolermaster and antec cobra ones, I'm using a coolermaster silver one with what looks to be some shielding. Works great for my cd rom drives (samsung 52x cdr+16 x dvd and generic 16x dvd)

I use the Antec Cobras

They're really long, so watch out for that (the ones I got at least) and are pretty stiff, so they're difficult to bend and such, but they work just fine. They look nice too

there was a company a while back that had some uber cables called gladiator cables...used a weird shielding that actually had lead in it...they were not cheap...but they were the best you could buy.
As of late ive been useing the vantec rounded cables with very good luck :)
easy to bend fairly cheap...and they work damn good

I bought more than a few sets of cables from SVC, all the way from the cheap round cables to nicer shielded ones. Got round cables from NewEgg also. Also got reamed at CompUSA for $15/cable for some really fancy shielded cables. End result is I cannot get a difference in reliability or transfer speed with any of the cables I have used so far.

I am sure there are some crap cables out there, just haven't run across them yet

I've been using the Coolermaster round cables in all the computers I build, with no problems. I don't know if they are the "best" out there, but I haven't had any issues with them.

To me they are all the same. SVC is a good/cheap place to order them. But the antec ones look pretty cool.

Me too, never a problem.

Ok i think im going to order the ones from SVC also lol. Simply because they are around 1/4 what it would cost me on Newegg for Antec Cobra cables, because they come in a ton of colors, and because they are 18" instead of those long ass 26" versions Antec has. Cooler Master are expensive also and dont come in very many colors.

I just picked up the Silver braided ones from frozencpu.com.. since they're just for my optical drives, I'm not overally worried about crosstalk at ata133 speeds...

the biggest thing is to try and stay in the ATA spec, so dont' starting buying 24+ inch cables, and start bitching if you get data corruption.. :D

I had some data corruption issues with one of my Coolermaster rounded cables (though it WASN'T a big 24" cable; just a regular length 2 connector ATA cable). Everytime Windows booted up, the consistency checker would come up with issues. Swapped out for regular ATA cables (I run 2 ATA drives in IDE RAID) and the problems disappeared and hasn't come back. Go figure. Probably just a bad cable.

yea, that happens every now and then.. I had a round scsi cable were the last connector wouldn't work.. returned it, got another one, worked great..

These are a bit expensive, but I have heard they are the best you can get. The IOSS RD3XP Gladiator IDE Cable. They are around $20 so it is pricey, but you get what you pay for. I have seen a comparison between these and the Antec Cobras and the RD3XP came out on top. Hope this helps.
