Hollywood studios have been given one week to turn over information about their negotiations with the developers of high-definition DVD formats to the European Union's antitrust regulator.

The European Commission is concerned that exclusive deals struck by some studios with the backers of either the HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc formats may be a sign of anticompetitive activity in the industry.

For once, I agree with the EU's antitrust obsessions. Just once though, don't expect it to happen again. ;)

I doubt anything is going to happen about it. The `entertainment Industry' always gets the red carpet treatment.

Same way they wouldn't dare do anything to microsoft - the EU's antitrust regulator has teeth.

So what is it that they are looking for? Developer groups paying off the studios for exclusive rights, maybe? Considering that two studios were one of the major players in Blu-Ray not sure which way this is going. Article doesn't really state what it's all about.

I agree too. I wondered about this a long time ago.

They probably just smell another cash cow.

I swear the EU sits around in a large office and thinks "Hmm, what can we sue today?!"
