These pictures and measurements are for modding the Antec300 case. It allow 13" of space for installing the new generation of upcoming videocards. The mod also allow for removal of cooling fans with bolt through back plates...without motherboard removal. I personally love the Antec 300 case because it offers so much cooling performance when coupled with two front mounted 120mm fans. The price is 'insanely' low and there is great cable management ability. It's also very nice looking...and now with this modification, it has everything. I can fit any videocard made today into it with lots of cooling for all components.

Removing the hard drive all together would look better.

Doing that though 'cleaner', would remove the structural integrity of the case. It could also introduce more noise through vibration, as well as remove my ability to maximize the number of harddrives.
 
I have seen dozen or so mods, where the person too out the hard drive cage to install 2 x 120mm water block. Structural integrity is not an issue.
