Hey guys, I have a tornado here that I got sick of... to damn loud. Anyways, I am wondering if there is a way to have it operate at half or quarter voltage without using a rheo. Sorta like a permanent mod... anyone know if this is possible?

i'm pretty sure if you have one red wire going to one tail, and a yellow wire going to the other tail, it will run at 7 volts (or so i've heard). I've always run my fans at 5 volts (one red wire to one tail, one black wire to the other tail). Try both and see what works best for ya.

Just remember if u use 5 volts it may be too low to start the fan on startup and thus make it get stuck and burn out and maybe even burn out the PSU but i don't recall for sure if the PSU too...

Just solder in a resister in-line with either the Red or Black wire. I'm not sure what ohm resister you'd want to use but you could pick up a multipack of them from radio shack and experiment until you get an acceptable reduction. Honestly though, if you want to make it a permanant mod, why not just spend $5 or so on a lower RPM fan?

Vantec re-labels/resells the Sunon as the Tornado...not Antec...

buy a fan controller or wire it up to use 5 volts...

Mines running at 5v fine. It is quieter then my coolermaster riffles at full speed, and the cpu is a few dergees cooler at full load then with the same size coolermaster led ones.

2 options: change the molex pins around or solder a resistor into the 12v line going to the fan. You'll probably want a 100-150 ohm resister rated for 1w

If you change the pins around, change the ground for the fan to the 5v line if you would like a 7v operating voltage or if you'd like a 5v, change the yellow(or red) 12v line on the fan to the red from the PSU and the black/ground wire for the fan to a black from the PSU.

It's confusing to read-do.
