Im wondering who designed and manufactures the Antec phantom line of PSUs. I have a roommate who went on and on about how good and silent these things were. Curious if Antec designed it and has it manufactured by another company.

Channelwell. Which means Fuhjyyu capacitor syndrome.

Not to mention electrical squeel, and on the 350 model, no PFC, And Very expensive.

I'd skip it. Go with a power supply with a 120mm fan if you want quiet without having to pay so much and having the capacitors blow not too long after. I give it 8 months to a year before the fuhjyyu syndrome really takes off.

Yup.

Also, the 500w has a fan in it which only kicks in when needed. When that fan does kick in, it's louder than a traditional fanned psu. Don't forget that the 500 is quite long too. A good inch longer than standard, from what it looks like. All unsleeved cables.

I'd look at SeaSonic's 500W PSU. Very quiet, very efficient. I've worked with them and was impressed.

Thanks for the info guys. I always look for something with a fan, especially in a PSU. I guess my roommate has a thing for brand loyalty and likes quiet over performance. Nice to know, stay away from the Phantoms.

Bbq, my Antec PSUs have the same problem. How did you find out Channel Well makes them? and the brand of capacitors... before the product is purchased? Also is the Enermax Noisetaker a reliable product?

It's just some things that we know. We can look at the uL number, which leads us straight to channelwell. The capacitors, it's something that we know from other people who buy it and pop it open. Or something. Then one person tells another, and then everyone knows it. Also like the Bad Caps forums, EOCF forums, OC forums, etc.

The Enermax Noisetaker is a reliable product. What do you need to power?

Just wanted to know if it's reliable [Enermax]. I thought the capacitor plague issue had been addressed some time ago but looks like some companies don't mind having their public image ruined by going cheap.

...Which is why they've switched over to Seasonic as their main OEM.

The Noisetaker is usually the Enermax PSU that you can get a real good deal on. Not cheap in quality however. BTW, Jonny, would love to see that review
