So I've been chasing a nagging problem since installing a Kuhler 920 onto my known good working i7-920 where it would not stay shut down. I could shut it down but 3 secs later it would reboot itself. In all other respects the system operated normally.

After a lengthy troubleshooting session which included taking the whole system apart and building outside the case, turns out that with the Kuhler 920 installed I have the problem. With the stock cooler, problem gone. Kuhler back on, problem back. It was the power connector that was causing the problem. I disconnected the USB which had no effect. It didn't matter which header I used either. CPU fan or whatever. If I connected the Kuhler power connector to any motherboard header it would reboot.

Also, I could never get my system to detect that a CPU fan was running. I had to set it to ignore. Is this normal? Once again, header didn't matter. None would report a fan rpm.

Anybody else ever run into this?
