Antec Aria (SFF) Problem!

Hi all,

I recently baught an Antec Aria PC with the following spec to be used as a 'gaming PC':

AMD 64 3000+ (venice 939)
ATI Xpress 200 Mobo
512mb DDR PC3200 (2x256)
120GB SATA 7200 rpm HD
256mb GeForce 6600
DVDRW.

The problem I am having is it keeps overheating. You can see the temps here --> http://img457.imageshack.us/img457/976/untitled4jb.jpg . It idles at 60C and if I play games (mainly counterstrike and Half life 2) 10minutes later it freezes and I have to reboot. (i've stopped attempting to play games as I think in the long term it will damage the hardware). Is there anything I can do about this? Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I have a new plan :cool: . To sell this current PC for about £500 on eBay and then build my own one. I will have £550 budget and am thinking about:

AMD Athlon 64 3000 Retail socket 939 venice
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
1GB GeIL Value PC3200 Dual Channel Kit - This bundle is £275
with:
80GB SATA 7200rpm 8MB Cache - £40
XFX GeForce PCX6600 GT 256MB - £145

although i'm not sure if that will fit in a SFF case? and without overheating and if it is all compatible. It adds up to £460 which leaves £90 for the case/psu, any advice/suggestions please! Thanks,

That motherboard is an ATX board, which wont fit. Just do some slight modding of the Aria for better airflow, as well as wire management. I've measured mine our and I can slap a 120mm fan on both side panels, unless I go with a 1U psu, then it'll be on on the side and one where the original psu goes. Either that, or watercool it.. Globalwin SilentStream and/or the Coolermaster Aquagate Mini 80/120 would work fine.
 
I would not recommend the Global Win Silent Stream. I bought this unit when it initially came out and the plastic they use is brittle and mine cracked as I was filling the unit. The unit also doesn't perform as good as other pre-made water cooling units.
 
Hole saw + fan + mesh filter + bolts = solution! :cool:

Lazy man's solution = crack open side of case.

Reset heatsink with quality thermal paste. Probably fix your issue.

Buy a decent heatsink (Zalman 7000, Swiftech MCX6400-V, something cheap)

Bending out the honey comb grille or opening the PSU and removing the fan grille will also help temps.
 
I cant wait til all my parts get here.. I've been dying to mod this bugger.. I've had the case for a at least 6 months.. With nothing inside of it even, let alone work on the mods... Im so excited, it'll be my first *real* mod session too... /tear drops from eye
 
idk about the swiftech but i know you can fit a zalman 7000 in it
 
Realistically I would apply the AS5 first, because if you upgrade your heatsink, you will have to learn anyway. You might not need to!

You would probably be happier with the Zalman. Cheaper and fan speed adjustable.

I have the ARIA and that heatsink - it will fit. ;) Swiftech + high speed fan + zalman fanmate would be better if you want to heavily overclock.
 
christ that was hard work. I removed the heatsink and put some AS5 on the cpu. Putting the heatsink back on was ridiculous! I used guesswork mostly :rolleyes: but after 5minutes I did it! :cool: Anywayyyyyyyy, the idle temps are system/ambient = ~30 and CPU = ~49-51. Can someone please link me to the Zalman 7000 I need ?(pref from ebuyer or some UK site) I think it will be fine as i'm getting the cyclone blower soon aswell. Thanks,

p.s what is 'remote 2' on SpeedFan? Mine shows 115 C ?!
 
Any of the 7000 series are good. 'b' was a compatibilty version but 'a' will probably work too. 7700 is too big and will not fit.
 
they have em at newegg too, same price, except newegg also has the black faceplate models if you want that instead.
 
my aria case doesn't run hot but i mod'd it to be a wind tunnel. I calculated the fans to change the air out in my case every second. I feel cold air where the fans are.

the open side looked better untill it got knocked in at a lan party...:(
 
yeah moving that much air made it catch alot of dust....and i'l lazy with my wiring.....and no it wasn't louder....the side that was on it was just a intricately cut piece of aluminum...the bottom was mesh....but both were broke when it was kicked in...i liked it more with out the side.
 
Not too bad man, nice color scheme. What did happen to that other side, though?

Using the same fans on mine... except they are the blue peaceful kind, not the angry red hurricane you have. ;) You should try a Swiftech sink, they get better performanc, especially if you don't care too much about noise and would probably work better with your mods.
 
i can fit it in a small duffel bag... along with keyboard, mouse, cables...ect...basicly everything except my LCD....i went to open the door to my car and one was slipping...so it was either drop my brand new LCD...or catch it with my leg and crush the side of my case...cases can be fixed i know nothing about LCDs...so the case took the heat

Oh by the way Sleepeeg3....does that video card tight in your aria....i'm going to buy the X800GTO2 and clock it to X850XT PE....and was wanting that cooler....but i wanna know how tight the fit was.....it's going in a Q-Pack (i can get a full atx PSU instead of the 300Watt in the Aria)...Thanks
 
Sell it, get a better case like the qpack, or a nice shuttle. Arias are NOT good for major computing without some serious modding and headaches... I know I have one, and my favorite tool when dealing with it is the tin snips....
 
The Q Pack comes standard with a 420 watt power supply its a good power supply but if you want a quieter one get one of the Antec power supplies they have a silent 500 watt on their website.

uhh.... good? not so much, no. if you get a qpack, treat it as if it doesn't come w/ a psu, unless you're just checking your parts to make sure they're not DOA.
 
WHY DO YOU SAY THAT? Is it really that bad of a power supply. Also if it is what do you recommned for a quiet power supply with plugs thast you can add and take away(modular)
 
if you ask anyone who's used it, they'll tell you to drop it like a hot potato. or something hotter. as for silent modular... the new antec neopowers are modular, and they're pretty good i think, but dunno if they're that quiet.
 
the Antec NeoHE psus have some issues I think. the main issue is compatibilty with Asus mobos but people have been having some problems with them
 
What is wrong with the power supply that comes with the q-pack. Please explain or point me toward the issuse associated with this power supply.

Not enough +12V amperage. Voltage regulation isn't as good as other PSUs, noise, risk of it blowing up, etc. Aspire PSUs are always to be avoided... this is no exception.

Im glad someone else has had a negative experience with that series of Water Coolers, Except the tube on mine burst near the bottom of the case.



Pure crap, besides my Air Heatsink ran cooler anyways

it sucks, thats whats wrong with it. it gives unstable power, it will cause random reboots of your system and possibly kill ur parts.

It has about a millimeter of clearance on the top and a centimeter on the PSU side, but that doesn't say anything about the X-Qpack.
