Antec 902 fan replacement question...

I'm about ready to purchase a Antec 902 to replace my older case, and before I do I was wondering about the fans... I prefer a case that doesn't glow, and I've read about a couple people replacing the front and rear fans. Has anyone here done this on the 902? If so, once you replace the fans can they still be controlled by the switches on the back of the case? Last question; can any basic three pin fan be used for this replacement?

Thanks.

I replaced the fans in both my Twelve Hundred and Nine Hundred Two. The replacement fans cannot be controlled by the stock fans' built-in controls unless you have the knowledge and ability to transplant them to the new fans. I just use a fan controller.

I use S-FLEX SFF21E. The 3pin connectors are fine if you're running the fans from a fan controller or a motherboard header. If you're using the power supply, you need molex connectors (or adapters).

Gothca, well I do work daily with electronics/wiring/soldering. by "transplanting" do you mean splicing the wires from the fan controllers and solerding them to the wires on the new fans? If so, do the fan controllers have two or three wires?

I'm not sure. You'll have to look at them when you get the case. The front fans have gray wires that have control knobs on the end that poke through the case's front mesh. The exhaust fan(s) have a wire with a two- or three-way switchbox. The Antec fans might be specially designed to use those controls, or maybe they can be removed and rigged to any fan. I don't know enough about fan construction and wiring to tell you for sure.

Cut the leds and you're done. The fans themselves are great and don't really need to be replaced unless you really have a preference for a specific brand of fan. They provide adequate airflow even at the lowest settings. I've never had to turn them up for any reason.

I'm getting rid of the leds on mine since I'm going from a blue/black theme to a red/black theme with white lighting.

I always replace stock fans. Just a habit I guess. Also I didn't want LED fans.

I migrated my system to the Nine Hundred Two and built a WHS box with the Twelve Hundred.

My idea was to replace the fans, but still use the existing fan controllers with the new fans... Can this be done?

Does it sway your decision to get the case? Or is it about your decision to buy better fans?

I agree with most that this case is curretnly the best choice, but like I said I prefer a LED-less case. I like the ability to adjust the speed of the fans without opening the case or adding any addition fans controller. So before I buy, I just wanted to know if replacing the fans and still using the built in switches would be possible...

Fan controller. I'm using this. Beats having fan controls in two different places. The exhaust fan's control is in the rear. Just flip the switches and you're set.

The fan control is built into the fan's PCB and the controls on the case are just switches. They won't be useful if you replace the fans.

Cut the leds or get a fan controller are pretty much your only options.

Alright, I guess I'll go ahead and purchase it. I'll give it a shot with the LED fans, and if it bugs me too much then like you said I'll simply cut the LED's off the fans. Sometimes the easiest idea is the best...

Thanks ya'll...
