Well, my Boss made me an offer I couldn't refuse, and I wanted to start fresh with a new Windows MCE install anyway, so say goodbye to my trusty Opteron 170 @ 2.7 on H20 rig

BYE BABY! I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU!

So I figured since I was hopping back to the land of Intel, I might as well pull off the Nvidia Bandwagon as well and spice things up by going ATI. After checking teh prices, and knowing that DX10 is just around the bend, I decided to find something faster than my 7800GTX-OC, yet not lose my mind in Crossfire territory since I'll be selling this card in the next few months.

So I did some shopping, and it should be here by Friday (or Monday if UPS is a whore)

Conroe Core 2 Duo E6600
Zalman CNPS9500 Cooler
Asus P5B Deluxe
2 Gig G.Skill PC-6400 4-4-4-12 DDR2
74Gig Raptor (16MB Cache)
Audigy 2 ZS Soundcard
Radeon X1900XTX 512MB
PC Power and Cooling 610 Watt PSU
CoolerMaster WaveMaster Black Case

Will I be happy? I LOVED my old rig, and I'm going to miss my Watercooling, but I had to sell today or it was a no-go. I'm going to look into some new lo-flow setups and hopefully have this system back on the liquid-love path in the next few months.

might want to change the ram... and maybe the cooler...

Either Corsair or no name brands that have infineon chips... Seems to do the trick...

Try scythe... They are near silent and cools probably better..

After looking at the Conroe OC thread here, G. Skill seems to be doing fairly well. Which Corsair would you recommend?

I own the Zalman 9500 LED. It is doing a great job on my E6400 up until 3200 MHz. At this speed I let it throttle between 40 % (silent) and 60 % (quiet) with Speed fan. If you consider that kind of OC, the Zalman will fit your needs.

But over 3200 up to 3400 MHz, because of the added voltage and heat, I reach up to 66 C with coretemp even at full speed (loud). It's not acceptable for me. You might get better performance for higher OCs with the Big typhoon, Thermalright ultra120 or the Ninja.

But 3200 MHz is still a great OC for me with modest voltage. ;)
