Not even Eyefinity specific, just multiple monitors on a 6870... I was under the impression that if you used the DisplayPort (almost all cards seems to have mini-DP) there would be no issues. So, I got a mini-DP->DP adapter, but that monitor is capped at 800x600. I currently only have 2 displays, the 3rd is coming, so I thought I would have no issue using the mini-DP. Currently using one DLDVI and one miniDP->DP and the DP monitor isn't working properly.

A maximum of 2 legacy monitors (VGA, DVI or HDMI) can be enabled simultaneously, provided that each monitor is connected either directly or via a “passive” DisplayPort™ adapter/dongle. “Passive” adapters/dongles will NOT support more than 2 legacy monitors.

So sayeth AMD, but the wording is a little awkward. Does that mean use 2x VGA, DVI, or HDMI on the video card side and if you connect passively to DisplayPort, that DP connection is on the monitor side?

Looking at http://support.amd.com/us/eyefinity/Pages/eyefinity-dongles.aspx , it doesn't say if the mini-DP->DP is active or passive, which I assume means it's just straight through and qualifies as neither.

I'm using direct DisplayPort, aren't I? So I should be able to run 2x DLDVI and 1x DisplayPort... Is mini-DP not as good as DP? If so, why do all the video cards use it? What am I doing wrong? Also for consideration, the monitors require DLDVI so a SLDVI adapter won't work.
 
what are your 3 monitors. the 6870 doesnt support 2 DL DVIs.

miniDP to DP is just a change is the size of the plug. nothing else.
 
I'll be running 2x Dell 2408wfp and 1x Dell 2407wfp.

I just discovered that by making the DP display primary, it works properly...

Would I be able to run DLDVI, HDMI, and DP in Eyefinity without purchasing any more adapters? I think it should work...
 
yes, you have to make the DP primary.
to your second question, the max res for the HDMI monitor will be 1920x1200 on the 6870.

all the monitors you listed work on SL.
 
Oh... I could've sworn back when I got my 2407 like 6 years ago I read that it required dual link and I assumed the same would be true for the 2408s. Currently have it up and running as I thought it should be, thanks for confirming and denying theories where applicable :p
 
DL is only needed for resolutions above 1920x1200. even if you had a DL monitor, lets say like one of those 2560x1440 ones, and you used a single link card, it would work, but at 1920x1200.
 
It struck me in the middle of the night (when my brain was supposed to be SLEEPING!) that I probably got the spec sheets for the 3007 and the 2407 crossed in my mind over the last few years.
