Been a really long time since ive overclocked a CPU and am looking for a bit of advice. I've just overclocked my Phenom 965 to 4.0ghz by changed the multiplier to x20. I rebooted, got into windows and when i opened the control panel, it immediately rebooted. When it finished rebooting again, it has remained stable so far. I have run the windows assessment as a light stress test and it made it through and im gettin ready to load up BC2 to see if I can make it through that game for a bit.

Temps are stable at idle about 32C and so far have spiked as high as 43C under a part of the windows assessment. If the system does become unstable and temps aren't an issue, what can I look at doing to increase stability?


BTW, I know the assessment tool isn't nearly as thorough at stress testing as most anything else, but its a quick and simple thing to do to see how it responds to all 4 cores being loaded up briefly.
 
As was expected, I made it about 5 minutes in game before the system BSODed. When I got back to BIOS CPU temps were only 33C so I imagine temp limit wasn't an issue...ive backed it down to 3.6 for now but what would you guys suggest for attempting to get it stable at 4?
 
Increase CPU voltage. Typically the Phenom II's need around 1.4-1.45v to get over 4 ghz.

lol, im not 100% new to overclocking, its just been since the days of the celeron and sub-1ghz speeds since I last messed with overclocking.

Gracias, I will start slowly fiddling with the cpu voltage. There are just so many parameters you can adjust now I had no idea which to change and which not to.
 
With a BE processor, the only voltage parameter you need to worry about is the CPU voltage. If you want to start overclocking the NB frequency (which does provide some noticeable gains), you would want to adjust the CPU/NB voltage.
